To follow up on an earlier report from Friday, The Wrestling Observer is reporting that Edge has a torn pectoral muscle after taking a bad bump at last week's Smackdown taping during the "Mardi Gras" angle with Kane.

As of now, he will be out for an undetermined amount of time, depending on whether he will go in for surgery or attempt to heal it in rehab. Reports state that Edge was said to have been bummed over the timing of the injury because the plan within WWE was to give him a long reign as champion and a top star on the brand.

The plan as of yesterday, which still has a chance of being changed later tonight, was for Edge to announce at tonight's Smackdown taping in Laredo, TX that he will be forfeiting the title and that a Battle Royal would take place to determine a new World Heavyweight Champion. The winner of the Battle Royal will then make their first title defense this Sunday at The Great American Bash in San Jose, CA.

PWInsider is reporting that with tonight's Smackdown taping in Laredo, TX set to see Edge forfeit the World Heavyweight Title due to a pectoral injury, the plan as of right now is to have The Great Khali win the World Title tonight in the scheduled Battle Royal main event to determine a new champion.

Khali vs. Batista is now slated as the new World Title Match for The Great American Bash PPV this Sunday in San Jose, CA. Again, plans are always subject to change, but this was the plan as of this evening heading into the tapings.

With Edge being forced to forfeit the World Heavyweight Title at Tuesday night's Smackdown taping in Laredo, TX and Great Khali winning the World Title in a Battle Royal later on in the night, it has now been confirmed that Khali will defend the title against Batista and Kane this Sunday at The Great American Bash PPV in San Jose, CA.
