Good to see you making some progress. Have you taken your bf% measurement lately?

I haven't recently, but I will this week. Probably on Friday when I do most of my measurements.

food was terrible today and yesterday - no biggie.

Just got off the treadmill: 48 minutes, 2.25 miles, 540 calories.

Spent about 10 minutes talking to a bodybuilder today about my style - and he gave me so pointers, so instead of doing chest/shoulders and tri's today, I just did 2 exercises for chest and rolled out:

Flat db bench: 7 x 115's (new pb)
incline db press: 10 x 90's, 8 x 100's (new pb)

food again was awful. I will definitely be getting back on the ball today.

Treadmill: 560 calories, 2.5 miles, 49:12 minutes. I sped it up to 3.3 mph about half way through and dropped my incline between 5.0 and 5.5 for most of it. Kept my heart rate in the 130-135 range for 40+ minutes.

That sounds like he was giving you the "if you get a burn (pump), you get muscle" type of philosophy. A pump doesn't always equal muscle hypertrophy. Although, PBs do equal hypertrophy, so maybe you did some good dispite of his advice.

Oddly enough, this guy didn't give me the volume builds muscle speech. He was saying that since I had just done heavy on chest, I should save my shoulders for another day so I can do shitloads of weight instead. And don't overtrain the muscle, use different exercises and occasionally take a week off. The guy really seemed to know more than your average musclehead. One of the things he said that really struck a chord with me was 'Once you get over just raw bull strength, it becomes a thinking mans game. To build muscle you have to overload the muscle and make it adapt to new challenges, so don't try and stress out your shoulders for growth after utilizing delts to do front db presses, save them for tomorrow and go HEAVY'. His ideas really gelled with what I have been trying to do for the last couple of weeks, so I feel I'm going in the right direction.

I did shoulders today and someone at work told me I am running out of neck with a quickness - they called it 'the turtle shell' (referring to my traps). Good stuff.

Cool! Perhaps I was a bit hasty. It does sound like he knows what he is talking about.

My 17 year old kid has better traps than I do. I do shrugs, he does nothing. Go figure.

Did shoulders the day before yesterday, did back yesterday. I don't have my notebook with me.

Of note, yesterday I did 600 calories, 2.5 miles and 50 minutes on the treadmill (exact numbers - I ran for some of that).

Today another 48 minutes, ~550 calories, 2.3sumthin miles.

I took the day off yesterday (other than morning cardio) and caught up on some much needed sleep. I have been worried that maybe I'm on the edge of overtraining with the amount of time I spend at the gym, so I have to force myself to not go. I'm about to head to the gym and do some mega-ultra-'are you f'n kidding'-legs now that I've had about 15 hours of sleep.

I also just had the best smoothie I've ever had and I feel I must mention it.

1 peach
1 banana
2 scoops muscle milk chocolate banana crunch
1.5 cups of milk
heaping tsp. natty peanut butter
ice

Probably close to 1000 calories, but daaaaaaamn tasty.
(actually I think 350 for the MM, 135 for the milk, 200ish for the pb, and whatever the banana and peach are).

*ahem* SKIM milk =)

I almost didn't eat anything at all yesterday. I got home from work and the gym about noon, ate some cottage cheese and some other small things and had to wait for the roofing guy to come by and give me an estimate. After he left at 2:30 I went to bed. Got up at 9 for about an hour, had a muscle milk rtd and went back to bed. Got up 7 this morning...

Dear god I can barely walk right now!!! I'm really starting to enjoy leg day again. I'll post my workout later, it's 10:30 and it's already 90 degrees outside, so I'm going to go do some yardwork before it really gets into 'georgian hell'.

You started this log 4 weeks ago. Maybe I missed it, but I don't see where you were weight-wise when you started. Anywho, I take it that that is good. As I recall, your goal is 30 lbs of fat loss by the end of October, right?

I was 168 this morning. No loss for the last 4 days, but I am holding on to this weight. I started at 196 on February 1. I just threw out 8 large garbage bags full of clothes. Everything in pants 35"-38" went. All extra larges on shirts and sweaters went also. I am saving the 34" waist pants. I am going for a 32" waist, but I think I will need seat in the 34" waisted shorts and pants. (Squatter's butt) I will just have to live with having the waist taken in on my pants and shorts. It is a great feeling to have this problem. Sure beats my pot belly, old man's tits and droopy butt of two years ago.

You can do it too.

I was about 265-266 4 weeks ago, my diet has been horrible for the past week and a half, but I have been sticking to my cardio like mad (of course the ECY stack doesn't hurt ).

That is awesome about the clothes man. I am really looking forward to that day. I have put my 3x shirts in the back of the closet and I can actually wear an XL now (depending on how they are cut, my arms are actually almost too big for most XL shirts to hang off of in the arms, but fit well in the chest and stomach). It's a long damned row to hoe, but it's totally worth it. When I first started back to working out 2 years ago, I was 298 lbs (about the same time we first encountered one another), and for me to be 259 today with 18 1/2" biceps is nothing short of amazing to me.

Keep fighting the good fight man.

That puts it into context. Great job. Keep doing it.

The fight is going to shift soon. The next challenge is to get bigger legs (to match my upper body) and more deeply cut abs. (You know, like those guys on the cover of Men's Health magazine. )
