Trust me, I'm not doing anything to hurt it again, or to slow my progress.

That tear experience was actually quite traumatic and it will be a LONG time before I get that out of my head, regardless of how good I feel even after I'm fully healed.

There are some things that I don't know if I will EVER do again.

Fortunately, I'm nearing the 8 week post surgery mark, at which point it should be about 90% healed. At least by that point the possibility of accidentally doing something to cause it to re-tear, or to cause the tendon to detach is greatly reduced.

Thanks StrongEnough? and BigD!

Second Physical Therapy session today.

All of my Range of Motion ( ROM ) measurements were significantly improved from last week.

Last week most of my ROM measurements were about 115 degrees.

This week all of my measurements were between 150 - 165 degrees. ( 170-180 being full ROM )

So, definitely making progress!

I have some new isometric exercises to do for my lateral and posterior delt muscles. I can't do anything with the anterior delt because it causes my pec to fire to much. Hopefully I'll be able to do more with it soon.

Next session is on Friday.

That's well over halfway to full ROM! I'd say that's progress.

Just out of curiousoty, how long do your sessions last?

Thanks Vegeto. Yes, almost everything is within 10-15 degrees of full ROM now.

The sessions last about 45 minutes.

The therapist does a lot of pressure point and muscle release techniques that really loosen up the muscle and help to increase the ROM. It's sort of like deep tissue massage. It hurts a little bit.. but it feels good also because it really loosens the muscles up. She also works on the scar tissue to help it release also.

Then I go home and do my stretches on my own about 3 times per day.

Hey BigBench,

It was pretty much all of the sudden. I had slightly injured the area of the muscle/tendon a few months earlier.. but nothing like the actual tear.

I did a full writeup of what happened in this post:

EME's Pec Tear Recovery Thread

Thanks for checking out my log.

Default Good luck

Yeah my buddy fredpo said you will be at the Arnold Classic so I hope to see you there. I am sure it has been a long road getting back and that, I know how much I hate not working out. I do think working out makes you stronger mentally though so I am sure you will get through it and be right back on your way.

Hey BigBench,

Yep, Kendra and I will be at the Arnold.

We'll be at the Molecular Nutrition booth all weekend. Definitely come by and say Hi.

Yes, it's tough having to sit out from training. This is longest I've ever been off in my life and I've experienced a lot of atrophy from the injury. It's hard to see yourself getting smaller and not being able to do anything about it.

However, I do have some good news.

My left arm is now back up over 15" It was 15 1/8 as of yesterday.

That is up about an inch from the lowest point while I had the sling on.

It's still down over 1 1/2 inches from before the tear.. but it's definitely progress.

My right arm is maintaining at about 15 1/2... down a little over an inch since before the accident.

I've actually lost the most size in my delts ( especially the left delt ). I don't really have a way to measure exactly how much I've lost there, but the size is down pretty dramatically. I'm hoping that will all come back fairly quickly when I can start training again though. :fingersxd

My Physical Therapy is going so well that we have backed off to just one session per week instead of two. I'm almost at full ROM, although my left arm and shoulder do sometimes get pretty stiff and it takes some stretching and warming up to see that full ROM.

Overall, things are going really well.

Just about two weeks until the Arnold! :nosthumbs

I hope to see a lot of you guys there!

Do some barbell/dumbbell floor presses, those are great for rehabilitation.

LOL..... Are you trying to put me back in the hospital Peaked?

I can't do ANY presses at all for another month or two at least.. and then it will be with the 5lb plastic weights!

I might be able to do something a little bit sooner, depending on how well I'm coming along. My next doc's appointment is in two weeks and I'll know more then.

No active pec or shoulder work at all until then. Only stretching.

I can't even think about doing a pushup right now, let alone anything with a barbell!

Hey,

I doubt I will do flat bench anymore, and probably not incline bench either. I'll actually miss incline bench a lot, it was one of my favorite exercises.

I'm going to stick to the hammer strength machine and the cable crossover for chest at first. That way, if I feel any sting I can quickly let off of the resistance.

If I continue to grow well using those exercises, I'll probably stick with them for quite a while.

I really don't see myself doing any heavy chest again. My chest grows really easily and I don't need it.

As far as other bodyparts go, I'll probably continue to do the same things I've always done. After talking with some other people who experienced a similar tear, I understand that shoulders may be somewhat difficult, but we'll just have to see how that goes. Hopefully it won't be a problem.
