I'm currently cutting to drop the extra fat I put on while I was out of commission and unable to train for 3 + months. I'll get my bodyfat back down into the single digits over the next couple months. By that time I will have progressed far enough in the recovery process to start training heavier and I can focus on putting the mass back on. As to your previous question about the charts, they are just imbedded images. You do it the same way you would imbed any other image in a post, with the [img] tags. Please let me know if you have any additional questions! - EME

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 51 | LOL, Correct. There is no way I'm bulking while I have all this extra fat. I can't train heavy enough right now to really produce major growth, and I don't want to have to go back later and drop a bunch of additional weight, just to get off the extra fat I have right now. I'd much rather get the fat off now, and then focus on building lean mass when I can train harder later. Even now during my cutting I'm getting over 300g of Protein every day and plenty of aminos other nutrients to fuel my body's recovery. And.. during the time when I couldn't train I did purposely keep my calories higher than normal to make sure I had enough calories during the inital recovery phase. However, now that I can train enough to "at least" maintain my muscle and let my body know there is a need for it by working it regularly, I am focused on dropping this extra bodyfat. - EME

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 51 | A little bit of an O/T update tonight. My training schedule is a little off this week due to buying our house. We had the final walkthough tonight after work. Everything looks beautiful! The sellers were really great about keeping every manual, warranty, etc. They left us all the manuals for the pool, and the filtration system, and the hot tub, all the appliances, etc. I didn't actually realize this before, but our pool has an automated purification system that monitors the water and dispenses the chemicals as needed. That is Sweet! I've always done it the old fashioned way with the little plastic water test kits and the drops of dye and pellets. Our closing is tomorrow at 10:00 AM and we are actually GETTING a check at closing. Gotta Love That! ![]() So to celebrate our happiness.... we went to Best Buy and spent $2000 in a matter of about 20 minutes. Actually... we needed to.... We bought a new Stainless Steel Refrigerator and a new Washer and Dryer for the house.... and got some really nice deals on all of them. So....not a real workout update tonight.. but just a life update. I'll finish tonight with some training related info........ The cutting continues to go well. Down to 173.5 this morning. My upper body is really starting to lean out, especially the shouders and arms.... abs still have a long way to go, but they always come in much later on me. My weight this morning puts me down about 17 pounds since March 9th. Weight loss is settling into a nice 1.5 pounds per week or so now. Right on target. The next week is going to be busy with moving and preparing competitors for upcoming shows. One has a show a week from this Saturday, and one has a show the following weekend. I'm going to have to squeeze my workouts in where I can... but I'll be back on track with my regular program by next week. - EME

We love it there. We went every year for a long time, but we aren't going to be able to make it this year with the house, and Kendra's competition schedule, and the things we are going to be doing with ALRI. But, it's worth it to miss this year. I defintely want to make it back next year though! We should all go to Cancun together one of these days! - EME

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 47 | Um question about ABS, Like on you or anyones else, do you actually have to thicken the muscle along with losing fat to see them? What if someone just lost fat and didnt work out would they still show a six pack???? Can you overtrain ABS?????? |

I am one of those people. Just a few years ago , I competed in a few shows with rediculously low bodyfat, but still did not really have good abs. It was a combination of two things... 1) My abs were not developed enough to really show through the skin. 2) My skin in my lower abs was not really tight because my waist had been much larger in the past. Over the past several years I have had to really train my abs hard to build them up enough to show well. They are still a weak area on me... not because of fat... but because of the reasons mentioned above. Even when I was very skinny as a kid, I carried a little bit of fat in my lower abs. I was never a really skinny kid with abs, like you see on occassion. Abs are largely genetic, some people naturally have them, and they are harder to get for others. Some people can get them with a little work... for some people it takes a marathon effort. Weighted resistance can really help build them up so that they will show through better, and sooner. However, be sure to keep the weighted exercises to things like crunches or leg raises. Don't do weighted twisting exercises or you will actually widen your waist by building the obliques and you'll end up hurting your V-Taper. Hit the obliques.. but hit them with high reps and no extra weight. Use resistance on your decline crunches, machine crunches, cable crunches, etc to build up the rectus abdominus. - EME

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 47 | Audrey Harris actually told me years ago not to do just that with obliques, and I remembered it!!!!! I have a small waist and want to keep it!!!! I was just feeling around and my lower abs have very thin skin, like no fat at all, but as I go up the skin gets thicker and thats the fat under the skin correct? So I will do what I gotta do!!!!!! And yes I do weighted crunches but doubt I could ever do weighted leg raises thats hard enough already!!!!!!!!!! |

I tend to hold a lot of water in my abs, and sometimes my lower abs don't really come in until right before the show. My Serratus and upper abs come in really well, but lowers are still a struggle for me... but they are getting better. I feel like this year in the offseason I made some good progress there. Let me show you these pics so you can see what I mean. The first pics are from 2004. Notice that my upper abs and serratus look very good, but my lower abs just aren't quite as tight. Obviously you can tell from the pics that fat is not an issue. It's just the skin in the lower abs isn't quite tight enough. ![]() This pic below was from last summer. I was 18 lbs heavier in the pic below than in the pic above, and still managed to have basically the same level of conditioning, but my lower abs still aren't quite where they need to be. Don't laugh at the hair. Kendra snapped this after I just woke up the day after my show. The hair is funny but I liked my conditioning, so I kept the pic. ![]() ![]() Next year, I hope to be able to bring more size, equal or better conditioning, and better lower abs to the stage. - EME
