I think a lot of it is due to the split. When I was on my old split it took me a lot longer to break through PRs. Now it's pretty much a daily occurance.
Pluse, now if I'm struggling with something for a while (couple workouts) I'll either drop the lift and do something different for the time being (like doing push presses for months instead of seated db presses) or change the rep scheme.
