| Pro Stature | I was reading some 5x5 articles and it said it's not good to do bodypart splits like Chest-Monday Back-Tuesday etc. Push/Pull, Upper/Lower, Full-Body is better because it works with the bodies movement. Is this is opinion or a fact that bodypart splits aren't good. |

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 160 | I don't know. For bodybuilding purposes I don't think full body workouts would be very good unless they were maybe 2x a week. The idea behind a split is that you are giving your muscles plenty of time to rest/recover/grow but still able to remain athletically active lifting with different muscle groups in the mean time. Full bodyworkouts, IMO, are good for a more athletic nature.... better endurance, etc. Just not for growing size. But I'm a newb

That would surely represent some kind of kind of freakish warp in the time-space continuum. For God's sake, someone ask Skel a question about Fat Loss or required Fat intake so we can set things right again! ![]() - EME

| Pro Stature | So a push/pull or upper/lower body split is superior to doing bodypart workouts? I know it depends on a lot of things, but generally speaking... |

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 160 | I prefer push/pull/legs ONLY because it fits my schedule at the moment. I still think I see more muscle growth doing a 5 day split. Generally speaking, I think it depends on your body type and how you train while you're there.

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 55 | One thing that is VERY important to learn about bodybuilding is that there are no absolute answer. It would be wrong for anyone to come on here and say that one particular kind of workout routine is better than another. ALL of it depends on how your body responds. During contest prep, I generally hit about 1 body part per day. In the offseason when I'm trying to gain weight, I do a three or four day split, hitting two - three bodyparts per day. I do the 1 bodypart per day routine when I'm trying to burn a lot of calories, and I need more training days per week to burn the calories necessary to get cut. I do the three or four day split when I'm trying to grow, so that I can spend three to four days out the gym, so I'm not burning up the calories I want to go to building muscle. I do it this way because I have learned that this is how MY body responds best. Sure, there are some basic fundamental theories that should go into developing your routine.... to gain size you need to be taking in more calories than you are burning... to cut, you need to be taking in less calories than you are burning... etc, etc. There are lots of theories involving training methodologies as well..... heavy weight / low reps are better for strength gain...... lighter weight/ higher reps are better for cutting.. - these may or may not be true for you. I know people that do virtually the identical training routine when cutting as they do when bulking, they just change their diet and add in some cardio. Bottom line, it's really all about what works best for you. Put together your own program based on the info you learn here... but listen YOUR body and adjust the plan as necessary to truly find out what works best for you. There is no one size fits all answer...... just good places to begin. - EME
