Question Should you workout legs at the beginning or end of the week?

Just curious if it matters or if there is any benefit to doing it either way.

Thanks,
Brian

As far as the rest of the body is concerned, the theory I go by is - the part of the body that needs most work, should go first part of the week as you are really stressing the whole body all the time. This way it is fully relaxed and worked the fulliest and the rest of the week you work hard but the muscles were already strained....does that make sense? i know what i mean in my head,,,,just not always in my writing...hah

I try to use the leg day to separate the days I work body parts that come in to play on two different kinds of workouts. For example, the bis play a part in the back, and the tris on your chest. They're both smaller muscle groups that can get overtrained, so its best to rest them as long as possible by using leg days and rest days between them.
That was a long winded answer!!

I do a 6 day two on/one off rotation so it's ends up being about the same. e.g. Back, Chest, Off, Legz, Shoulderz/armz, Off.

I always do legs on Wednesday. I dunno why, but thats just how I've always done it. I like having a day off from upper body work in the middle of the week.

Right now I am only doing a two day split - upper body on Tuesday, lower on Thursday. I know this isnt the best because I am only training certain muscles once a week, working out a lot in one day, etc. etc. But I recently got orders to Korea and I am a newly wed so I am shceduling my workouts to be best conducive with the new wifeys work schedule to spend the most time together before I leave. So I was just curious as to whether or not I could benefit more from doing legs at the beginning or end of the week, or if it even mattered.

Also I will be going today to figure out my max reps for each exercise. Since I will be doing my whole body in one day should I start with my legs or does that really even matter?

Thanks for the help guys,
Brian

Well, in your situation with such low training frequency, I doubt it really matters when you train legs. For determining maxes though, absolutely do legs first. It is the safest that way, since your body will be fresh and not prone to sloppy form with which you could hurt yourself.

Good point.

Yea, I know that my frequency sucks. Once I get to Korea I will go back to my old routine - upper monday, lower wednesday, upper friday, lower monday, upper wednesday, lower friday, repeat. But as I said, until I leave this is the way its going to be.

I'm doing legs twice a week, on Tuesday and Friday under dual factor.

On my previous split it varied when I did legs since I was on a 6 day rotation, doing them once during that period.

It's all about personal preference and what sort of training protocol you are wanting to follow, which will be based on what your goals are.

When I was doing my latest 5x5 phase I was doing squats on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
