Default should interval training stay under 20 minutes?

For example, if I can do a 45 second sprint followed by a 15 second walk for 20 minutes, should I keep doing it longer until around 40 minutes, or should I intensify it and do something like a 60 second run followed by a 15 second walk? Should I keep it under 20 minutes or should I do intervals longer to 30-40 minutes?

My thought is that if you even feel like going over 20 then it was not a true High Intensity workout. However, I have gone as high as 30 min with a 2:1 ratio of high to low, but if your all out then 20 should be fine.
