What kind of movement has the doctor approved? Can you do stationary bike?

Sorry to hear about your wreck - I got rear ended myself last week and I was already away from heavy lifting because of back/neck problems myself. Lately I have been able to lift enough to maintain, but that's it. Honestly, speaking from experience, your health is more important than your gains. Ask the doc what you can and can't do, and make sure to ask him why. If you better understand the situation and the reasons for your limitations, the better off you will be.

Did you get xrays taken? Or something else? What'd the doc say is up with your neck/back, and what'd you do to hurt it? Unless it's something extreme, you'll heal eventually and you can get back to your work. Your age will play a role in your healing process, as will your diet and your ability to do what the doc says. How old are you? If you haven't looked into diet much, I'd strongly suggest reading up in the nutrition section of this forum and cleaning up your diet - it will help you heal quicker. Also, make sure you are getting in plenty of water as this is crucial not only to the healing process, but to overall health and fitness. Always drink plenty of water, but if you're healing drink a little extra.

I hope you get better soon.

I had a major car wreck my senior year of high school and had to take off a lot of time from the gym. I have 3 bulging discs in my lower back and bad knees and a bruised brain (Post Concussive syndrome). Point being I had to take a lot of time off, I tried eating right and continued taking vitamins and doing what I can. I would definitely quit lifting weights until you hear from a doctor. Start eating right to maintain, and you should be fine. Rest isn't a terrible thing for your muscles.

Sorry to hear of your injury.

Here are some thoughts:

Eat a high protein diet
Stay away from high glycemic foods
Eat lots of vegetables.
Eat some healthy fats (Olive oil, natural peanut butter, mixed nuts, etc.)
Drink lots of water
Eat small meals often

Do whatever you can do to burn some extra calories. If you are able to walk, do that. If it is cold outside, all the better. Your body burns calories to replace lost body heat, so do it anyway.

Listen to your doctor.

Good luck
