Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 10 | If I lift without gloves I usually get blisters. I always use gloves. I also noticed that I can grip the weights better without them slipping out of my hands when I sweat.

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 31 | When I decide to use gloves I lift with gloves for pressing, pushing and curling movement and without for pulling movements (ie. ones that need max grip strength). Probably only take gloves to the gym about a quarter of the time though. Don't think it really helps with my bench or any presses other than added comfort. Plus they seem to take a little pressure off my tiny ass fragile wrists, which helps.

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 45 | I never lift without gloves. I occassionally get calloused hands even through the gloves if I'm handling enough weight. My hands are rough enough. I want them to be soft! ![]() I'll even use straps on some pulling exercises where I don't want to have to worry about my grip. Especially shrugs for some reason. You definately won't be able to lift more with gloves. It's just a comfort/hand softness thing. ![]() If you're going to get some get the cheap Harbingers. They're the best!

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 216 | I feel like gloves detract from my "feel" when I'm lifting. Who gives a crap about soft hands...guys aren't supposed to have soft hands anyay. Lifting without gloves forces your grip strength to increase faster than training with them would. I use straps only on deads and shrugs. I like the security they give me when I'm moving that kind of weight around.

| Pro Stature | Well, I don't lift freeweights anymore, but when I did, this is what I did. I only used gloves for heavy pulling movements. I didn't wear gloves for deadlifts and other pulling movements with gloves, because this would strength my grip. The only time gloves IMO are approriate is if your doing an exercise where holding the weight without gloves is near impossible. I'm talking about rack pulls that are usually 500+ lbs. or explosive shrugs that are a few hundred. |

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 45 | You talking about the gloves with the hooks? I don't really think gloves change how hard you have to grip at all. You have to keep your fingers closed gloves or no gloves with the weight trying to open them.

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 94 | It depends on the exercise. For pulling exercises I don't use gloves since it allows me to grip the bar better and I can do heavier amounts without my grip failing. Rack pulls, Pendlay rows, Yates rows, shrugs, 1 arm db rows, etc. are all done without gloves, when I did them before with gloves my grip would give out causing me to end the set prematurely. Not using them when going heavy will give you calluses, but I like them. ![]() I still use gloves on pressing exercises, probably more or less out of habit.
