Default Fast recovery...

Long story short:
Over the past 4 weekends I cut down, cut up, stacked and chipped the slash from 38 trees. All the while still workingout 4 days a week during the week then 10-12 hour lumberjack days on the weekends. Number 1 I am pooped and number 2 my forearms are trashed. I can’t make a tight fist at all. I tried to go to the gym this morning but could hardly hold the weight with out feeling like I am going to drop it and it was very distracting. I have been using hooks for pulling to help out but I think they are finally done for. I am making great gains and hate to stop training. How can I recover from this pain and get back in the gym the fastest. Right now as I type I have bags of ice dripping all over my desk. Help...

Ice baths, epsom slat bath, whirlpool, EMS therapy, message, foam roller, sleep, supplements, and the list goes on.

Thanx for the reply. So what do you mean by EMS I am guessing you mean Physical Therapy? Other than a painkiller the doc will just say, rest…right? What supplements can help me?

amino acids are really good for aiding with recovery..

but your best bet is a week off.... ... it wont kill you to take aweek off, infact it will help you more than hurt you. You will come back stronger than ever... I always do..

That really depends on the individual.

Myself, I almost always come back weaker. I guess my muscle memory is extremely short lived. That's why I can't afford to take a week off from training and do much better with a simple deload period instead.

EMS is Electronic Muscle Stimulation. From a website Google pulled up when I typed "EMS therapy"....
"provides "passive" exercise by sending electrical impulses or signals to the selected muscle or muscle groups to contract and relax them. The E.M.S. can relax a "tense", "tight" or spasmodic muscle."

I've never tried it so I can't speak for or against it.

I am suprised you would lose strength in just a week.. you are right though everyone is different.

I suggested a week off because it sounds like he may be overtraining, and possibly has an injury. If that is the case then the healing of the injury will allow him to lift more..

I agree that in his situation he would probably benefit greatly from time away from the gym.

For me, it's really more of a strength endurance and not just pure strength. For example, on any particular compound exercise I might lose a rep after taking a week off. That is usually what happens to me. I certainly don't return to the gym with the ability to do a 10th rep when before I was only at 9. I usually come back at 8. Just an example again.

The EMS contracts your muscles by sending electricity through them. If you ever seen them for abs or in the back of a magazine saying it'll get you buff and stuff.

It's a great tool for recovery if you can easily access one.

There are more factors than just activity that will have an effect on how much energy you have and the main one is diet. If you are not able to feed your body enough fuel to help repair the muscles that you are torturing then you will feel zapped no matter what. Second to that would be rest, muscles need time to heal so that they can perform at optimum capacity. So I would say that your best bet would be to make sure that you are saturating your muscles with enough water and nutrients so that they don't get dehydrated. Dehydrated muscles take far more time to heal than hydrated muscles and dehydration can lead to serious injury. Then I would look at the amount of rest that you are allowing yourself, I don't think that it would be a bad idea to take a little time off and allow your body to fully recoop and store up some of those important nutrients.

Just my 2cents

There is way more to recovery than just diet.
