Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 0 | Hi all and Happy New Year! For the last couple of years, I have been using a HIT style workout, whereby after warmups, I would jump to my heaviest weight and knock out a set of 'x' reps until failure. Given how taxing this can be on the CNS, you are limited to doing very few sets until your energy tapers off. For the last week or so, I have cut back the intensity of the first couple of sets in my workout. So... if I have a pre-designated rep range of 10-12 (for example), I would knock out 12 (with a couple spare in the tank) on my first set, same for the second, but the third set I might be really struggling to get 10. I have been able to do a workout consisting of 6+ sets for one bodypart because I am not going balls to the wall on ALL my sets. Obviously, there is a trade-off between intensity and volume and that is what i am addressing here. Question is, is it better or worse to train in this fashion? I was planning to cycle through rep ranges... e.g. 2 weeks at 10-12, 2 weeks at 8-10, 2 weeks and 6-8 and 2 weeks at 2-6... then repeat the cycle with slightly heavier weights. |

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 216 | You just described a periodized training schedule, which is an excellent way to train. If you're interesting in that type of training, check out Spytech's programs; they incorporate periodization with high-intensity training methods(similar to DC). They are excellent for both strength and size.
