Default can i lift 5-6 times a week and it still be healthy?

i love going to the gym and lifting. i lift with some of my best friends and we all enjoy going. i personally lift 5-6 times a week on average but i have recently been reading a lot about over working myself. is it possible for a newbie lifter to still make it to the gym 5-6 times a week and it still be heathy? just wondering if anyone has specific tips on making this more beneficial to me. thanks.

depends on many things.

your split, volume and genetics will be the key determinates of whether it is okay.

Is that indefinitely?

Or, how many weeks/months do you do that at a time?

If your volume in each workout isn't sky high, then it's perfectly fine to train that often. If my family commitments weren't a priority I'd be spreading my 4 day split out over 6 days instead.

I do 2 intense days and 2 volume days each week. Every fourth week I sub the heavy days for light recoup work. A 5th day of training is used each week for utility strength. This includes swimming and farmers walks (kinda my cardio)

Powerlifters are SUCH a different breed man.

I should probably try powerlifting one day. It'd prolly be good for me

i usally workout, Monday-chest, Tues-back, wed-shoulders, thurs-bi's, friday- legs/tris, sat-chest... if im not too sore after this, ill just continue going,.. i usally do 6 days on, one off, unless im really sore at the end of the week... usally my legs hurt so bad for 2-3 days after my workout lol. But yea.. i do 6 on 1 off, and it has worked for me.

Or i will do mon, tues, wed, thurs, fri, sat off, sun on, mon, tues, weds, thrus, fri, sat, sun off, mon on.. etc.. That type of thing. Like everyone else said, it depends on alot of things, genetics play a huge part i believe, and your volume.

thanks guys, one more question though. are you saying less volume and more weight if i want to lift that often? im a pretty small dude (5'11" and 130lbs) so i dont know if that will effect me with the volume vs weight but any advice would be helpful. ive only been lifting for about 5 weeks now and im starting to get a routine down i just want to make sure it isnt a bad one. from the results ive been seeing (ive gained about 2 lbs a week) it looks like ive been doing pretty good but i wouldnt mind perfecting my routine and getting the most out of what i do with out killing myself. once again, thanks for the help

glad to hear you are having success. Regardless, as cliche as it sounds, keep your diet in check and surf the nutrition section. I know I can train a ton more in a caloric surplus.

Right now your going to gain almost no matter what you do as long as your diet it good. You will reach a point soon though the beginner gains will slow down and a good routine will become more important. Why don't you post up exactly what your currently doing.
