| Pro Stature | IMO, it matters greatly on what position your playing. If your gonna be a center or a power forward, hitting the weights will help alot. For that, a WS4SB II, but you have to do the drills there. If your going to be a smaller guy, like a shooting guard or a point guard, weights won't help much. For that I would just go outside and practice my shot. And for these, lots of lower body is gonna be needed. A_N_91 |

I'd double up on your endurance and ask your coach for some drills that involve enhancing one's sprinting ability. And oh yeah, run a lot. Get running for a pre-determined distance or time and then the next day, lengthening it something considerable (ex. 1st day=1 mile, 2nd day=1 1/2 miles, etc.). You always want to be increasing the resistance so that you're more fit than your opponents. One more thing, it wouldn't hurt to lift weights. I mean, just because you're a shooting or point guard it doesn't mean you'll be staying out of the key all game. You'll more than likely encounter several guards taller or bigger than you, so that's when you need that extra strength and maneuverability. With weights, go with high reps (8-10) since you'll be focusing more on flexibility and endurance. Work on the compound movements (bench press, deadlift, bicep curls, etc.), you shouldn't be too concerned about any isolation movements as of right now. And then hit the treadmill or bike to get in some cardio. Trust me, you'll have to learn to love running because that'll be your best friend when it comes to basketball. Oh yeah, work on your jump shot and free throws. These are your 'second' best friends. ![]()
