| FDU Devils Weightlifter | I'm working on getting enough equipment for a home gym. Your number 1 and 2 pieces of equipment to get should be a powerrack and barbell. Next is a bench, maybe some dumbbells if you wish, good flooring, and other various pieces of equipment. For a powerrack, keep an eye out for them in local classifieds. I found an old york rack for 125 in the paper and scoop it up. Its not incredibly wide, but it is as good as any other rack out there. Keep your eye out. oh yeah, and a weight tree comes in handy to, I just got one a few weeks ago, life is so much easier now that I don't have to worry about plates breaking on my floor or my fingers getting caught under plates.

| Pink Members | i workout at home....actually have NEVER worked out in a gym in my entire life! yikes! i KNOW im missing out by not going to the gym but it just doesnt fit into my schedule so i workout around here instead....even if its midnight... i have found that the most important things for me are the weight bench, barbell, adjustable dbs, exercise bike (for cardio) and my pulldown machine thingy ( even though you dont HAVE to have this i enjoy using it for the front and rear pulldowns). i dont have a squat rack so i clean the barbell for weights up to about 100lbs and then if i have to have anything heavier on the barbell where i would need a rack i use an old weight bench thats higher than the one i have now....it works as a rack perfectly! all we did was take off the seats and stuff so its the weight bench frame....taped up any sharp or pointy edges with duct tape and whalah! i just load the barbell up on the weight bench arms and then all i have to do is sit under the bar and lift....swing one leg over the bench to clear it and walk a little away from it to squat! i know its crude but it works for me! for my rack pulls i use two large paint buckets (they are actually those big white buckets that they store stucco and stuff in) that are approx knee level.....rest each end of the barbell on the top of each bucket ( the little lip on the bucket helps keep the barbell from rolling) and lift from that point....i usually move back a tad from the buckets and bend to about lower knee level.... all i know is that i can do everything i need to do here at home.... i just dont have a jacuzzi or a pool! damn! hahah |

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 113 | most good home gyms i've seen for your interest have simply consisted of a steel rack, adjustable all purpose bench, 5 pairs of DBs based on YOUR uses, and some kettle balls. Of course a texas bar and set of plates.

| Amateur | I found a killer deal on a Smith Rack, 300lbs of weights, all the different handles (V, lat bar, curl bar, etc.) and an adjustable bench at Sam's Club for like $450. It's the best purchase I have made. I got a set of adjustable db handles later, and added a Pull up/Dip station so I'm good. All I do is go to Dick's and buy the plates to add to my weight for like $.40 a pound. I also have an elliptical machine for cardio. I can do any exercise I want except for some of the specialized machine ones, which I can usually figure out a way to improvise with what I have. :clapping:

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 49 | for my home gym, i have a powerrack, fully adjustable bench, barbell, dumbell spindalls, ez curl bar, tri-cep bar, shorter barbell, and a ton of weight plates. It was expensive to get it all.. but well worth the fact that you never have to wait for equip, you can do it any time of the day as you please. The weights r the only thing that get pricey due to progression. But thats to be expected

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 6 | I agree with others that suggested a power rack. Also the barbell set should be an olympic set for use in the power rack. Next would be an adjustable bench and some sort of pulley system. There are some power racks that come with a pulley system attached. |

| FDU Devils Weightlifter | meh, pulley isnt needed per-say, but I would at least have a bar on the rack to do pullups. mine came with the dip accessory stuff

You keep putting down the smyth bro... Why do you hate it so much??? I have seen Ronnie Coleman using one, Jay Cutler, just about every other pro bodybuilder too.. It has helped me make huge gains in strength in my bench press, and is great for isolating the chest when benching.. It is also great for shrugs, and squats if you know what you are doing.... If you are into powerlifting I could see why you wouldn't want to use it, but for bodybuilding it is a very useful tool... especialy if you train alone like I do. | |

| FDU Devils Weightlifter | meh, I still see it as a dangerous tool. I can see how it would help, but I only see it usable for maybe shrugs and calf raises. Other then that, imo its to dangerous to use, specially for squats!
