i believe they are solid moves... but have you ever seen a competitive olympic lifter over the age of 40? I know I have not.

Yes I have. A damned strong one to, I think he just nailed a 150kg or so clean and jerk @ ~80kg. Guys a monster.

The reason you don't "see" competitive olympic lifters of 40 is because you don't see older guys in the bigger meets (aka olympics or worlds) because after a certain period of time devouting your ENTIRE life to it, they can't make due monetarily so its either quit competitions or go broke.

I have kinda changed my position on them. I think EVERYONE should learn/know how to snatch and use it on a semi-regular basis. Cleans should only be done if you can hold it properly up top, otherwise you risk damaging your wrists.

One thing I've noticed about the clean and snatch is that they directly develope confidence. You CANNOT get under the bar in a snatch properly unless you are absolutely confident in your technique, and your ability to move the weight. You MUST believe you are fine when you go under to catch the weight, or you don't catch it right.

I agree yea i would probably eventually get used to it. But i just dont see the reward being greater then the risk. Now im not saying that its not worth it.. cuz hell.. those Oly lifters are crazy strong and i respect them. I just don't think its for me. However The Deadlift is amazing!

word. deadlift is good, but im more for explosive such. I can DL 150kg faster and more explosively (and better form to) then when I could pull 190kg. =D

We do them once a week in my weight training class and they can be pretty brutal. I do like doing them its just the form is hard to get right, but once you do you can really expolade and throw up some good numbers

yepp. We got a guy who just came in from strongman at my club. He powersnatched 75kg easily, with some form tweaks he will be doing 100+ easily soon. Interesting that a guy from Strongman/PL can squat ATG perfectly with the bar overhead. Amazing.
