Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 3 | Since I am the one who started the thread, I figure I will make the first post. I am very disappointed in the US. I honestly thought they would make a better showing against a very good Czech team. They put together some nice sequences in the middle of the field, but failed to convert on any of them. while the Czech Republic converted on the few opportunities they had. Perhaps if Reyna had netted that shot, we wouldn't be talking about a loss, but we will never know. The road for the US will most certainly get bumpier (or tougher, choose whichever adjective you prefer), as they have another difficult match against Italy next and will finish up Group 3 play against a young Ghana team, which showed some promise in a 2-nil losstoday against Italy. Furthermore, how about Australia-Japan? Australia scoring 3 goals in 7 minutes, after going a goal down in a very controversial goal/refereeing (?) decision. Congratulations to Australia on scoring their first goal in a World Cup, and furthermore, for winning their first game in World Cup competition. It will be interesting to see what they bring to the pitch against a very strong Brazilian squad. |

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 3 | Apparently, no one else on here is a big soccer/futbol fan. Results from yesterday: France 0 Switzerland 0 -France didn't live up to expectations Korea Republic 2 Togo 1 -didn't catch this game..heard it was a good one Brazil 1 Croatia 0 -was let down by Ronaldo's poor performance -Kaka (fun to say), the lone goal scorer, played great..player of the tourney so far, IMO Results from today: Germany 1 Poland 0 -best game in the World Cup so far, IMO -highly anticipated game..lived up to those expectations -very physical game Spain 4 Ukraine 0 -Spain played great in this game -historically, Spain falls apart..let's see if they can hold up -Ukraine benefitted highly from the tie later in the day (seen below) Tunisia 2 Saudi Arabia 2 -was entertaining -good game to watch, but very poorly played -both of these teams needed this win, might have trouble escaping this group Tomorrow's games: Ecuador vs. Costa Rica England vs. Trinidad and Tobago Sweden vs. Paraguay Nothing too exciting tomorrow, but there are some important games. England should be fun to watch. If England can pick up another 3 points tomorrow, they will easily advance into the next round...same thing for Ecuador. Sweden vs. Paraguay could very well be the battle for second place in Group B (same group as England). |

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 5 | **** yea footbal is awesome. Coming from an Italian family I've grown up with it, and I follow all the major leagues - not just the EPL. It was AWESOME to see Australia come back from that dodgy call. You should have seen the streets of Melbourne city center after... literally no room on the streets, people chanting and being merry - truely fantastic and embodies the emotions and joy of football. Czech Republic is looking extremely good this year with their more than convinsing win against the USA. I'd definately tip them as cup contendors. Nedved is completely devistating in the midfield, and roiskcy (spelling D:?) is clearly inform with an extremely good strike. Of course, one cannot put Brazil out of contention. Although they didn't get the game they would have wanted vs Croatia, they still definately had the win. When Ronaldo gets into things (I think it's more when, not if), their offence will return to scorefest. Lucio in the brazilian defence also showed that he's more than capable - on many occasions holding the Croatian attacks out on his own.

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 94 | I've been following it. The teams I'm mainly interested in are Germany, USA, and Australia. Of course I'm a big fan of Germany. The Germany - Costa Rica game was a good match. And I saw most of the Australia - Japan game, missed the ending though. ![]()

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 299 | I'm too wrapped up the Stanley Cup finals to get into this yet but all my favorites have one so far so I'm happy. Next round things will get a little more exciting. I want Brazil to win but if they get knocked out I want England to clean house! ![]() |

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 31 | lol, I didn't know this thread existed. England are through to the second round. How exciting!! Entertaining, but nailbiting, game too. I don't think Brazil are as unbeatable as everyone expected, based on their first match. Ronaldo looks like a fat weirdo.

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 3 | Today's Results: Ecuador 3 Costa Rica 0 -high scoring match, very entertaining to watch -by defeating Costa Rica, Ecuador has clinched a spot in the elimination round for the first time ever -Ecuador and Germany are the first two teams assured of a spot in the next round England 2 Trinidad and Tobago 0 -England made way too many mistakes..if they make them in the next round, they will have trouble advancing any further -TNT (which is what I am now calling Trinidad & Tobago) was moments away from blowing up (all pun intended), they played very well against a perennial superpower and still have a great chance to move on -England became the third team to advance Sweden vs. Paraguay -game coming up in a few minutes, should be a good one -Paraguay kept in close against England and their going to need a decision here -Sweden is always a good team in the World Cup but hasn't shown much this year..their looking to turn it around |

I was expecting much more from England. They made way too many mistakes and nearly lost the match, especially towards the end. If Trinidad and Tobago's conditioning was better, the result might have been different. Regardless, it was great to see Wayne Rooney back in action. To quote a commentator from ESPN: "The smallest country [TNT] almost pulled off the biggest upset." Brazil is by far the most entertaining team in the World Cup. What can I say? I love Ronaldinho. But they did not look like they were a lock for the finals..but I still believe they will make it there. Here's an interesting tidbit on Ronaldo, from fifaworldcup.yahoo.com: Quote:
Sweden vs. Paraguay just started. Already some good action. Their GK (Paraguay) seems very inexperienced and there's already a high level of physicality. Looks like it's gonna be a good one.

I don't think England made many mistakes, they had most of the posession and most of the chances- they just lacked finishing power. Our major flaw seemed to be in bringing bodies back to defend the counter-attack, which Trinidad and Tobago took advantage of too many times. Trinidad and Tobago played excellent defence and a rapid counter attack but once the substitutions were made in the second half there was only ever one team in it. Someone on bb.com brought up a very good point; England have NEVER won their first two games, and they usually advance to the second round. Two early wins is excellent for a team that always has to build up steam. The best is yet to come methinks... (hopes)...

Trinidad and Tobago looks like they are sitting pretty. If the score of the current game stays the same, I really like their chances. That is a great point. England will be fun to watch in the later rounds.

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 94 | The US - Italy game turned out better than I thought for the US. Other than the fact the referee from Uruguay was an idiot. The US only had 9 players on their side from two red cards and managed to keep it to a 1-1 tie the second half. They made a goal in the second half for a 2-1 score but it was disallowed.

| Mushroom Cloud Laying.... | You know, I grew up where you only played soccer if you were too pussy for baseball, football, or basketball, and I really regret that is how it was like. I watched my first world cup game (Sweden vs. Trinidad) whenever that was and loved it. Soccer kicks ass. Since then I have watched 4 or 5 games. I really like Brazil even though they aren't playing very well. Ukraine played damn well today against Saudi, USA can't score a goal if they tried.
