Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 3 | I have lost all respect that I had for Zinedine Zidane. That was a completely classless act, regardless of what was said. He was a great player, perhaps the best of our time, but his last moment before he was sent off is what I will forever remember him for. Good riddance. FIFA World Cup Final, 2006 Regulation: Italy 1 France 1 Penalty Shootout: Italy 5 France 3 Italy: 2006 FIFA World Cup Champions! My predictions were slightly off. I predicted Italy to win on PK's 3-2 after a 1-1 tie in regulation. However, I was slightly off and Italy won 5-3 on PK's. Congratulations to Italy! They were clearly the best, most consistent team throughout the tournament and the win was well deserved. Hopefully, the turmoil in the Italian leagues can be sorted out, so we can again see some of this great talent on display. |

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 3 | Any thoughts on what should happen to Zidane's award (best player in the WC)? In my opinion, he was the best player in the WC until that moment. I doubt, after that encounter, that he is truly who you want representing soccer throughout the world. Still, a great player nonetheless and I say, let him keep the award. However, for some reason, I see him being stripped of his award. |

The fact that FIFA and the press worldwide also seem to be focusing on Materazzi make me think Zidane will get through unscathed.

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 32 | Marco Materazzi has finally explained what he said to Zinedine Zidane before he was headbutted by the Frenchman during Italy's World Cup final victory. Zidane was sent off for the attack and later claimed he was provoked after Materazzi had insulted his mother. But Materazzi told Gazzetta dello Sport that Zidane's sister was the subject. He said: "I was tugging his shirt, he said to me 'if you want my shirt so much I'll give it to you afterwards,' I answered that I'd prefer his sister." Materazzi added: "It's not a particularly nice thing to say, I recognise that. But loads of players say worse things. "I didn't even know he had a sister before all this happened." Materazzi was later handed a two-match ban from world governing body Fifa, while Zidane was banned for three games and fined £3,260. Zidane, who has since retired from football, has never specified what Materazzi said to him and has refused to apologise to his opponent. Asked on 12 July exactly Materazzi had said, Zidane would only offer that it was "very personal" and concerned his mother and his sister. "You hear those things once and you try to walk away," added Zidane. "That's what I wanted to do because I am retiring. You hear it a second time and then a third time..." http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/foot...ls/5315618.stm
