Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 73 | Have just recently gotten into it this summer. put together a set, taking some lessons, at the driving range 2-3 times a week and have played probably half of the local courses so far... have become somewhat obsessed you could say. awesome game though! and I'm amazed how many people in the "business world" I see on the course...great way to network. I still haven't gotten my driver completely figured out (slices hard about 2/3 of the time - I blame the huge muscles ) but I'm pretty consistent with my irons, and puttings ok. I've got a taylormade superquad driver (bought used), nicklaus v18 irons & hybrids (3 and 4 are hybrids) and a ping g5i putter..... anyone else here play? what do you guys have in the bag? |

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 113 | i could talk for ages about golf and golf equipment. It's my profession. I'm a Class A-3 (teaching and club) PGA Professional. If u get a really good down the line shot (vid) of ur swing and a good face on shot, i can give u some help via PM. I work in Chicago at a teaching academy called Green To Tee Golf Academy during the summers, and am the first assistant at a golf club at school during the year. I can't diognose your slice without seeing your swing, but I can tell u you're problem with the driver will not go away unless u make swing modifications. Even a muscular person can swing the golf club well, and the main reason u hit your irons more effectively than ur driver is due to greater loft. Backspin negates sidespin. In addition, irons are shorter in length, and thus easier to control.

I think my problem with my driver have alot to do with me not having a consistent swing yet.... my lessons so far have been mostly iron work and trying to get a consistent swing with those, just havent really gotten to the driver yet. thats sweet your in chicago man I might have to come bug you sometime, I've got some family & friends there...I'll have to look for an excuse to visit. |

| Mushroom Cloud Laying.... | I play a lot of golf. I am terrible but will play in the 90's and low 100's on really good par 70-72 holes. I am not great at all but love to play. I had my golf clubs stolen last year so I am using some 10 year old mix and match clubs. I am going to get some custom clones here soon onc I get a pay check.

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 29 | Love to play. Been playing for almost 10 years and played in high school. Have a 6 handicap and could be closer to par if I really practiced and concentrated on my golf game. Great game, just wish I would have started younger.

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 113 | i'm glad to see so much golf interest on the board. It's a great game which, in many ways, represents the challenges and adversity seen in every day life. How one handles obstacles on the golf course says a lot about their character and personality.

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 113 | alright. Let's talk about the limitation of the golf ball on tour to make the golf courses play the way they are meant to. Abstract: Many traditionalists in the PGA and USGA believe "two piece" golf balls like the PRO-V1 have made many of today's great golf courses too easy. The golf ball line prior to the two piece was the quality wound golf ball, such as the Tour Prestige and the Tour Professional 90 and 100. The average driving distance on tour has increased from 265 yards in 1973 to 294 yards in 2003. Every club expert knows the golf club, although getting much larger, has only had a minor impact on overall driving distance. The golf ball is the culprate. Companies' ability to create a ball which flies hard off a wood, but flies soft off a wedge has made the best of both world's possible. So do we believe forcing the PGA Tour players to use a uniform golf ball (such as the Professional 90 by Titleist) is a bad thing? Is longer hitting better for the TV and Media? Will this unfairly effect some players on tour? What about the contracted sponsorships tour players have with specific golf ball manufacturers? let's discuss. I'll reserve my comments untill later.

| Mushroom Cloud Laying.... | If I was a traditionalist, I would agree that having a golf ball that can be hit well over 350 yards, but yet allow desireable control with a wedge would indeed make the courses too easy, but, while watching the US Open and seeing that no one, even tiger and hard hitting angel cabrera finished under par, i see nothing wrong with a golf ball that will allow such control. If everyone has access to the same technology, then it is no big deal to me, although the golf courses do need to catch up with technology. I am glad you never see a 450 par 5 on tour anymore, like you would 10 years ago.

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 113 | lets talk about steroid use. it's not the AAS section, but this is a pretty hot topic currently with bonds and his HGH use. Many respected authorities, including Gary Player, are sure some of the players on the PGA tour are "On." A few professors, including the head of sports nutrition at Penn State, believes the use of winstrol creams, and other strength compounds (halodrol, 4-chloro) is used by many untested athletes. The problem lies in the media. The portrayed image of a person who is "On" is bonds... or a pro-wrestler. The fact is, many marathon runners, bikers, swimmers... and.... golfers.... use these compounds to aid healing, allowing them to train their sport more frequently. What the public doesn't know is that "juice" doesn't make you big. A surplus of calories, along with big compound movements does. Juice just helps. Because of this, a top athlete in golf, may not look like they use (whatever THAT lookes like), but may gain considerable strength. It makes me wonder... Tiger was recently on the cover of Men's Health. The article was the biggest joke in the entire world. Anyone who knows about strength sports and sport specific training knows the routine mentioned in Men's Health was ghost written (as normal). What Tiger, the greatest golfer in the world, does in the gym is NOT 30 repetitions of assisted pullups. That's bogus. I happen to have spoken with a few guys at the Titleist TPI, and know for a fact that Tiger trains with chains, squats over 400 lbs, and benches at least 3 plates. If the media can mis-portray his routine so much, with people truly believing that BS... I can't imagine what else we don't know unless we are in the locker room. PS: for anyone who watched John Daly's interview friday afternoon, knows some of the greatest words ever spoken from a pro athlete was shared: Interviewer- John, how is your body holding up in this heat? John- Well, I figure caffine plus nicotine equals protein, so I'll be just fine.

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 73 | ^ ya I'd heard he benches 315 someplace. guys in amazing shape, but then again if you had millions of dollars and could buy the best trainers in the world thats to be expected. AAS in any sport though is just performance enhancement.... its evolved enough now that you can pretty much tailor an AAS regimen based on your needs. I wouldn't doubt golfers would use, gentlemens game or not when theres millions of dollars at stake you'll do what it takes. That said though I dont think there will ever be a "steroid scandal" in golf. you're dead on in that the public perception of guys that juice are meatheads, and as no one in golf looks like that, the media isn't going to have an obvious scapegoat. daly's awesome, he had a couple other zingers in that interview. I thought woody austin had a pretty good post tourney interview too.... guy seems pretty down to earth. |
