The Newark Star-Ledger on Monday reported that the veteran New York Jets running back will not be returning this season and is very close to ending his career. Martin, 33, has been on the physically unable to perform list the entire year. He underwent surgery in December after suffering an injury to his right knee in Week Two of the 2005 campaign. Martin doesn't have any cartilage in the knee, leaving him unable to run effectively. Discovery Channel Man vs Wild 2006 "He (Martin) told me he's done," a Jets player, who requested anonymity, told the Star-Ledger. "He said he has bone-on-bone and he can't cut." A 12-year veteran, Martin has rushed for 14,101 yards and 90 touchdowns in 168 games. He is the Jets' all-time leading rusher and has been selected to five Pro Bowls. The Jets have until November 7 to decide whether Martin will be eligible to practice or rule him inactive for the remainder of the season. © 2006 SportsTicker Enterprises, LP |

| Amateur | He had a long career. His numbers are fantastic and they should propel him into the HOF. However, he's a player who has been under the radar for many years and unless you flash his career totals, you would never guess he accumulated so many yards/TD's. It might take him a few tried before he gets into the HOF.

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 3 | It will be a sad off-season in NY. Two of the NFL's All-Time greats will be retiring at season's end. I would love to see Tiki continue playing, as he certainly appears able. However, it looks like Curtis Martin is physically unable to play. |
