Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 160 | I just really need to rant about this. Apologies if you've heard my story before. At 15-16 yrs old I weighed 185lbs. I got put on lithium for a while At 17 yrs I weighed 295lbs, I started lifting weights At 18-19 yrs old I weighed 195lbs, I stopped lifting At 23-24 yrs I weighed 285lbs, I started lifting weights again At 26 yrs old I weighed 195lbs and was in the best shape of my life, I stopped lifting at 27 yrs old, currently, I weigh 270lbs. I am so sick of this pattern. I am so fat and unhappy right now it's ridiculous. I'm wearing snug 42" waist pants that don't fit right, no clothes fit right. My back hurts if I stand to long, I don't fit into chairs correctly, shopping is a night mare, and I'm over all just miserable. There's something wrong with my metabolism, because my girlfriend has confirmed my fears. When I eat like everyone else I put on massive amounts of weight. I am extremely sensitive to the types of foods I eat. She's almost as puzzled as I am as to how I continue to put on weight. My typical day's worth of food right now is a meal replacement bar for breakfast and lunch. A sandwich or something after school, and then a dinner like chicken or something in the evening. This is how it's been for months, YET I weigh and look as if I ate twinkies exclusively. I even walk my ass around a gigantic university campus 5 days a week so I'm not sedentry! I do not fit into any of my workout clothes anymore. I am so ashamed to go into the gym. The last time I went I saw myself doing squats in the mirror and all I could think was that I am a different person. I am old now. Anyone who sees my pictures will see that when I stopped lifting age came and kicked my ass, I look and feel like a 45 yr old man yet I'm only going on 27. Is there help for me?? Hopefully one day soon I'll start going to the gym every day again, but at this point I feel like it's just another cruel iteration of a loop of torture. Just this time last year people were coming to me for weight lifting advice and complimenting my muscularity and db bench press. Now I have coworkers that make fun of me for being fat. Thank you ironmass for coming back online and letting me get that off my chest.

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 160 | I know I just gotta get my shit together, but this stuff takes a toll on me mentally. It's really hard to see yourself go through this. Right now I'm trying to find a way to exercise etc w/o going to a public place. I really feel like I need to exercise in private until I can lose 10-20lbs. I'm so ashamed of myself it's unreal. And thank you for the no homo comment. You are not so bad yourself (no homo) ![]()

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 54 | Do you want to get back into good shape or not? It's that simple. If you want it badly enough, then do the things necessary to make it happen. Right now, you don't sound anything like the old skel... you are blatantly disregarding all you know to be true about diet and fitness. WAKE UP OLD SKEL, TIME TO KICK NEW SKEL'S ARSE!!! A nutrition and diet expert like yourself is eating a couple of meal replacement bars (WTF -- never an optimal choice), a sandwich, and then a chicken dinner, and you're wondering why you have the metabolism of a tortoise!!! You weight 270 lbs, and you're probably eating a diet that I could cut with at >160 lbs. Unless your sandwich is a massive meatball parm, and your chicken dinner is fat laiden with all the trimmings, then you just aren't getting in enough cals, and certainly not even close to optimal macros. Since when do you want to 'eat like everyone else'? The average diet is crap... there are so many skinny/fat people who think they're in decent shape; you sure as hell don't want to be one of them. You need weight training, heavy weight training. Take advantage of the fact that even while in caloric deficit, because you're cutting down from a high BF%, you will be able to make nice lean mass gains. Get in the gym... just swallow your pride, channel your shame into positive energy and suffer through it until it gets fun again. Re-calibrate your measure of progress... don't compare yourself to who you used to be... that'll only discourage you, learn to take pride in making improvements from where you are now. You need a solid cardio routine, not just strolling across campus. Your body has adapted to your daily demands and it won't change if you just do more of the same. You need intense cardio that pushes you beyond your comfort zone. I'm not saying anything you don't already know. You have to put a SOLID plan together and start logging the transformation. I'd love to see that happen. ![]()

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 32 | x2 - Skel, you know this stuff and it's hard to break momentum... but everything you know to be true (you've always given excellent advice to anyone from any direction from newbie to expert to someone like me (like you) who let it slide and is now getting back in the game (or needs to get back in the game). I say this from experience because I have learned a lot of good advice from members here and reading, research, and coaches. And, more importantly, I put it to use and got good results. You are in the same position -- you know what will work for you and just need a change of focus and to know that we're all here for you and got your back... I let it slide this year and am really just now pulling out of it. Did I cheat all weekend? Partially... I guess it could have been worse... but I'm back at a good diet again today and forced myself to go lift last night, even if I cut it short a little because of the sheer amount of work I did all day. And, yes -- i should have banged out the fourth set of skull krushers and not dropped hammer curls, but I'm a pussy and will now pay for it now that I've admitted it to y'all... (imprtance of keeping a journal I guess). Sorry for the rambling on -- trying to figure out how to say what you already know. Oh, and WTF with the bar for breakfast and lunch? Dude -- oatmeal, whey, almonds... you know the deal! ![]()

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 207 | Madman has given in the past(and continues to give) some very good advice and encouragement. Get in the gym, lift heavy stuff, and do your damn cardio like you know you should. We've all seen what happens when you really get after it, so just do it and for the love of crap stop eating meal replacement bars.

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 160 | but MetRX makes a 410 calorie replacement bar with 32 grams of protein AND tastes like apple pie! But I know. I just figure it's a better option than not eating on days i'm in a rush.

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 57 | C'mon skel. That is over 1 lb. per week on average. Are you sure there wasn't some pizza, beer and cream cheese in there somewhere? ![]() You know the drill. 6 meals per day, lots of water, cardio daily, vigorous lifting 4-6 times per week. Watch the types of carbs you are eating. Get plenty sleep. IOWs, start losing a lb. and a half per week. *

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 70 | I'm really going to try to not sound like a dick here but: Yes, I most certainley do, and there are two things you can do for yourself: 1) Get of your lazy ass and do something about it or 2) Do nothing and get fatter. Now, I'm really not trying to sound rude. But honestly, you rant on these forums as if we are supposed to make you feel better or something, just don't do it!!!! Stay away from the stuff you know you shoulden't be eating. Skel, you're a really smart guy, you just need to put that stuff in action. Again, I'm really not trying to sound derogitory [sp], but am I trying to sound harsh? Yea, for the purpose of getting my point across. |

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 160 | And once again, no you can not relate to the body weight roller coaster I've been on. Most people will never experience such dramatic weight fluctuations in their life. If I want to come on here, rant a little bit, and try get some motivation and support from my friends... is that so wrong? If you don't like it you don't have to post in it! You don't even have to read it! It's called freedom, you make your own choice. This website IS my support. I've posted with these people for YEARS now. These are the only people whom I feel comfortable seeking support in. If you have some other support mechanism than GOOD FOR YOU. Do not chastise me for trying to find a wall to lean against while I put my shoes on. If you think you're coming across as out of bounds then you probably are.
