You have started another thread about "Which diet?" Forget diets. You need to adopt a new lifestyle that will match the body that you want to achieve and maintain. That lifestyle might include one bagel and a little cream cheese once per week, but then you would have to give up other junk food if that is your choice. If you want more bagels and cream cheese, forget this BBing stuff. If you ever get there, you won't be able to stay there anyway if you don't embrace the lifestyle.

My opinion, do a clean bulk for 8 weeks. No more than 250 calories over maintenance. Do some serious muscle building with all of the main compound movement exercises plus some appropriate isolation exercises. Keep your protein (260+ grams per day) evenly spaced over 6 or 7 meals. If you eat a lot of the right vegetables it won't amount to a lot of carbs anyway. Eat one starchy vegetable or grain 2 hours before your workout. Keep the saturated fats in check. Eat berries and nuts for snacks with low fat cottage cheese, plain non fat yogurt or just by the handfull. Drink lots of water. Eat carbs before, during and after your workout. Keep the evening for meat protein and green fibrous vegetables. After 8 weeks you can do a cut. The same routine, just smaller portions and cut out the dairy.

I could go on, but you have heard most of this before.

No I don't think it is insane at all. You really are not fat at all anymore and I think that a bulk would do you some good. Get jacked and hyooge and then cut some more. As long as you keep your cals totally clean and keep the cardio up, I bet you don't put on that much fat at all.

Well... we all have some fat to lose.

Quote:

No I don't. I am 193.5 lbs and bulking. What are you, 10 lbs more? A few inches taller? Don't equate a bulk with pigging out. A bulk is about gaining muscle (and a little fat because no one can fine-tune calories close enough to avoid fat on a bulk. Gaining muscle is priority.) Tune in your calories with clean eating and focus on building muscle and strength for 8 weeks. Only worry about fat to the extent that you don't put a lot of it on. Give yourself 4 lbs leeway (Gaining .5 lbs of muscle and .5 lbs of fat each week over an 8 week period wouldn't be terribly bad.) After that you can do a cut with a 250 calorie deficit including a few refeed meals per week to lose .5 lbs per week while you maintain that muscle that you have accumulated. You are closer than you think. If you don't sabotage it...

i would definitely get on the brink of hyoooge. I am constantly being commented on / referenced about my muscles. I think it makes some of the smaller more cut guys jealous believe it or not.

Well, I'm 90% sure I'll do a bulk november..... and hey, i've already been ramping up my calories!

This time though I will write out a food plan, but it's dependent on what happens with this nha stack log i think, lol

Highly debatable, I know... But I'm tellin' ya.. even with a not so clean bulk u can styll gain muscle & lose fat... I got a tanita body composition analyzer done on august 10th 2005... It said I was 23.6% body fat.. a number I highly disagree with... but anywayz... because of that number, I religiously did cardio after my workouts... (except after leg day workouts) ... 20 minutes HIIT on the elliptical .. 1:30 at 110+ spm and :30 at 200+ spm .... Well, October 18th.. just for comparisons sake.. I got back on the tanita scale and the numbers ay I gained 3.6 pounds of muscle and lost 9.6 pounds of bodyfat... which dropped to 18.9% ... (a number I STYLL don't agree with!!) ... but at least the bodyfat measurements went down...

My point... Don't be afraid to do cardio whyle you bulk... I'm now a fyrm believer that doin cardio in the morning on an empty stomach.. and immediately after a workout ... (workout, cardio, protein/carb shake) ... will target exclusively bodyfat...

Now I'm on a cut, eating just about 2000 cals a day (down from 3500+) and I'm gonna see if I can get the Tanita to say 12% or better... (a number I probably styll won't agree with!!) ... then it's back to bulking baby!!! Give it a shot man..

Peace..~G

Hey, game. If you lost fat on a bulk, you were cutting. What determines a bulk is being in a state that consumes more calories than you burn. When in that state you can add muscle and fat. I suspect with your metabolism, your cardio and even with all that food consumption you put yourself into a caloric deficit (cutting). Are you still doing all of that cardio?

Cool

Naw... I wasn't cutting.. Honest.. I was bulking... I gained nearly 4 pounds of muscle in 2 months... that's a bulk to me... It just so happens that doing cardio at the moments your body is carb/glycogen depleted forces the body to target fat cells for energy ... I never did cardio after eating a bunch of wheat bread and rice... I only did it after workouts... I've been preaching for the longest that it's the best way to do a lean bulk... I wanted to break 200 #'s ... but at the same tyme, I didn't want to be 30% bodyfat when I do it...

Now that I'm really cutting.. I went from 3500+ cals to <2000 cals a day... and I'm styll doing cardio after my weight lyfting workouts... With lowered carbs... (lowered everythyng actually) ... I'm expecting a decrease in strength.. but I'm styll gonna target fat cells with after workout cardio... I'll do thys for 4 weeks... and then I may try 2 a day cardio sessions for 2 weeks.... (naw, I'm lying) .. I'm not gonna do 2 a days!!! ...

According to the stupid Tanita machine, I burn 1719 cals at rest... ... I figured 3000 for me would be around maintenance... We'll see which direction I'm headed in... in 4 weeks...

Peace..~G

I agree, but we will find out in a week or two. (assuming he can stick to a <2000 calorie per day regimen. ) I am 193 lbs and my maintenance is 2600. The difference between us is huge in age and homonal levels so his maintenance could easily be 3000 calories per day. If he is right, he should drop 4 lbs (fat or muscle) in 2 weeks. Keep us posted GDD.

This is EXACTLY right.

Finally someone talking sense!!! ( not that you other guys weren't.....but all this fad diet nonsense floating around the net drives me insane.....)

The quoted paragraph below is exactly what you do Skel, if you have decided that you want to put on some muscle now.

A very clean mass building phase will also do a lot for your long term cutting goals.

By increasing your calories for a while, you'll raise the baseline for your metabolism. The next time you start cutting you won't have to drop your calories quite so low to get results. Your body will also be more responsive to giving up some more fat after taking in a caloric surplus for a while.

It will be up to you to stick with your plan though..

Remember, clean bulking and pigging out are NOT the same thing.

Fluff won't be part of this diet bro!
