| Pink Members | LOL...ooops im so sorry! i thought i left a link in here.... PSMF is a protein sparing modified fast.... basically a total fast with some amount of protein and lean veggies added to it. From what i have read it was originally developed for the treatment of extreme obesity with the goal being to generate maximum weight/fat loss while sparing lean body mass loss. According to Lyle McDonald, the author and creator of PSMF, it can generate fat loss in the realm of 0.5-0.67 lbs/day depending on things like starting bodyweight, etc. heres more dialouge on this diet |

| Pro Stature | These diets are only supposed to be used for a matter of days at a time. They are most often used in hospitals to get morbidly obese patients to lose weight and to improve their lipid profiles, etc before major surgery. These diets are NOT suitable for people who are not VERY obese or on some other medical advice. I wouldnt recommend any type of fasting personally except for the above reasons, especially not in someone who is weight training.

the thing is this diet is really being used by all types of people on other boards...i have tried to go in and disagree about it and the people who are doing it ( and some are doing it for weeks, but utilizing their cheat days etc by the book) feel STRONGLY that it is working for them when nothing else has. i felt it had its place here in this section...if only to warn people how extreme it is and to ask that everyone PLEASE PLEASE read the entire book before jumping into this. i have seen so many just try it without even reading it scares me. but apparantly it is being used by those who cannot seem to get anywhere in their fat loss...and even by people who are NOT obese. Flexible dieting, Lyle's other book that comes along with the PSMF book, is a much more sensible diet IMO...and i would recommned it over the PSMF diet any day. if any of you mods think we should just delete this thread i wont be upset...its a very controversial diet...extremely extreme...and i have been close to being banned in other places for disagreeing with it...hahahaa...

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 158 | PSMF scares me. I think it sends the wrong message if someone is new to dieting. A lot of overweight people think it's all or nothing and usually end up eating 1,000 calories a day anyway. If they stumble across something like PSMF it only amplifies the poor eating habits and sets them up for a huge fat rebound.

| Pink Members | gawd i am so happy to see i am not the only one who thinks this diet stinks...i am a member of a different forum where countless people are doing PSMF and using it as a tool in their weight loss efforts...countless times i have tried to discuss it, but it never gets very far...they are adamant about doing it and swear by it...it boggles my mind why anyone would want to do it, but they seem to think its a godsend. scarey really, although most of them will talk your ear off on why its safe for them to do, even though they are not severely obese...they even LIFT while on PSMF....anyhoooo...just glad to see i am not the only one who disagrees strongly about it. |

Personally, I think posting information about unhealthy diets is no different from posting information about how to lift with injury-inducing form.

I've never seen an intelligent person try to follow psmf, but i've seen plenty of trolls and extremely obese people screw around and try to follow it. It's just... very bad. Any diet that advocates more than a 1,000 calorie defecit from maintenance is bad news.

| Pink Members | well i have seen intelligent people doing the diet...LOTS of them... but i didnt make the diet up nor do i support it, but i thought it was valid to bring up in here for discussion as i have seen so many people at other bodybuilding and lifting sites doing it. i certainly didnt mean to ruffle any feathers by bringing it up. |

Removing PSMF from thys forum doesn't mean people won't learn about it... The same way removing sexual education from schools doesn't mean that teenagers won't learn about sex... *D Peace..~G

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 19 | What concerns me is that people don't seem to be aware of how much damage they can do to themselves with diets like this. If someone came on the board and posted that he had serious back problems, for instance, and someone else posted that what worked for him (or her) was to do heavy squats and deadlifts, we'd all raise up in opposition. But if someone posts that he wants to lose weight and someone else replies with a whacked out diet, the thread will start to take the form of a debate, which serves to legitimize the diet. I don't know if this is because people know less about nutrition or if it's because the health effects of wacky diets may not be immediately observable, but I don't think we should give credence to this stuff. |
