Default Info on carb cycling?

After a successful winter bulk its time for me to start actually paying attention to what I'm eating and lean out a bit for these California beaches. Since I absolutely cannot function without carbs, I've grown interested in carb cycling.

Who has tried it, what worked and what didn't? Any links to good articles?

Default Re: Info on carb cycling?

i have had awesome success with my runs at it. I am primarily focused on keeping my strength, but that means keeping my size. There are certain routines i CAN do on a ckd, and there are some i CAN'T. imo, something like a HEAVY, HEAVY, LIGHT, LIGHT split would be most effective. Check out my log and danman's log. 2.5 days of carbs (.5 prior training and then during the two days of training).

When it comes to the numbers, I don't know. I never really count anymore, just sort of micromanage based on how I feel and my activity levels. I used "Cut Diet" principles during my re-feeds (the .5, or night before). That is, I used a few BCAA, and then all fat and carbs. I keep protein low during re-feeds. On my training days, though, I keep FAT very low, and C+P meals heavy.

PM me or AIM message me at djs5017 if you want to discuss it further.

I run a carb cycle similar to the anabolic diet, but its basically, sun-fri no more then 30g of carbs PERIOD. Then after my workout friday night I start with tons of carbs, low fat and moderate levels of protein. At first its just some sugars and such and then more complex.

I dont count carbs though, I go by feel like DJ.

DJ's idea is probably a lot more solid then mine.

whats up Ikaika nice to see that people still care to post here

so I will do my best to help out as I will always support sholiz and his board.

very basic info that i did

carbs staggerd in high, med, and low days. and i always start my diet with an high, med, then low day for the first 2 weeks to adjust to the diet then i will start my own stagger like high, med, med, low, or high low, low, high it will all depend on your bodyfat and rate of fat loss on what you decide to make your stagger.

a high day for me was 7 meals and about 600 carbs, very low fat and protein was dropped slightly on the high days ( subtracted about 10 or 15 grams of protein from each meal)

a med. day was about 1.5 grams of protein per lbm and about 300 carbs, low fat (about 10 grams of EFA's). and 6 meals for the day

a low day was about 150 grams of carbs, protein was again 1.5 grams per LBM and low to mod fat from EFA's (10-30 grams worth) and 6 meals for the day.

now you can use that and tweak your own diet according to how much LBM your carry.

repped. Nice post.
EDIT: it won't let me

the key is understanding WHY it works. Low carb dieting is flawed for NATURAL athletes because it does not leave room for quality performance while training. Also, eating a low carb diet for long periods of time hinders thyroid stimulation (one of the key players in metabolism), and thus you see a lot of issues with metabolic rate and hormone levels. There is no doubt that carbs are the most anabolic nutrient, but that trait makes them both you're best friend and worst enemy in the world of bbing. Contrasting your carb intake is the best method (to date) for controling your body's ability to deal with glucose, hormones and metabolism during fat loss.

Thanks for the info guys. I'll get started on building my diet around Brad's basic structure and tweak it as needed.
