Default IMPC, Do you think I could do it, and how?

The question is, do I really think I can compete in the IMPC open division, and look good doing it.

Do I have enough time to pull it off? If I've been at it this long but never saw amazing results, can I really bet on making amazing results in the next 8 months? Sure I could try, but at the same time I could be making a fool of myself.

If I ate 2500-3000 calories a day, with an occasional cheat, cardio 4-5 days a week, and lifting 4+ days a week... how far would I go?

If I don't do cardio, I will not make any results. I've learned that. If I'm doing cardio regularly I lose weight. If I'm not I don't. It doesn't matter how/what I'm eating or lifting or how much.... honestly.

There are other sure ways to fail as well. Be creative. You can go to jail, or break your leg or something. Another sure way to fail would be if your car blew up with you in it, just like that movie casino.

Now, tell me how to beat madman in the IMPC.

You're no help. Pictures of ugly chicks isn't going to win me the IMPC.

I need a plan of action. A good one. A plan that brings me to the prime of my life. The type of plans that makes other plans feel like a spontaneous goof up. I need a plan to rule all plans. A plan so planned out and effective that no other plan will ever come close to it's potential.

I need the plan.... that makes me win.

How about this diet I just got off bb.com?

Breakfast - Cereal
School - Bottle of water and a piece of fruit
Home - Some olives with bread
Dinner - 500 - 700 Cals

And I could start each day off with 10 minutes stationary bike and 12 sets of 40 reps bicept curls

I think you can. Need I remind you, I wasn't exactly Mr. Ripped at the beginning of last year's IMPC. I started cutting in March before the IMPC even started. I was 193 lbs at my heaviest and I hit as low as 138 prepping for the IMPC.

Absolutely, you have enough time. You can bet on making amazing progress, as long as you set your mind on the goal and let nothing get in your way. No matter how daunting the task is, just set your mind on getting 'er done. It is not easy getting into contest shape; it is probably the hardest thing I've ever done in my life. It requires total dedication to your diet and training. Every time I was tempted by a cheat food (which was constant with the wife and kids around), I would stop and say to myself "You will not reach your goal if you eat this; what's more important to you?". Ultimately, that's what it comes down to.

That strategy is okay in the beginning and can probably get you down to the point where you've hit plateaus in the past. Once you get to that point, at hopefully 16 weeks out, you will need to follow an extremely strict diet and training program. No cheats, just a clean refeed at maintenance level. Cardio will become your best friend. Lower intensity cardio 2X per day, 30 minutes in the am and another 30 minutes in the pm, SIX days per week. At a month out, you may need to increase the cardio sessions to 40-45 minutes. That is the reality of what it takes. Cutting down from 24% to 12% is nothing compared to cutting down from 12% to 5%. Cutting into single-digits is a whole different beast. It is extermely tough, but also incredibly satisfying. Once you get to the last 6 weeks or so, you will literally see your definition improving daily and it is the coolest thing you'll ever experience.

Anytime you want advice or help with your prep, I'll help anyway that I can, even if you are the competition. If I hadn't worked with EME last year, I wouldn't have been able to get into the shape I did; not for lack of effort or book knowledge, but from ignorance of the extremes that are required.

You can do it Skel and when you do, you'll cry tears of friggin' joy... it WILL be worth it!!!!

I personally like to eat 500 cals under maintenance at a 40/40/20 breakdown. When I get to the last few months I get more stringent on where the macros reside. You know what to eat. Its been said a million times. I keep my dishes balanced mostly. Chicken/FishLean beef + leafy green (brocolli, asparugus, grean beans) + Good Fat ( Olive oil, Fish Oil, Peanut butter, nuts etc.). Skel this is completely a mental challenge. Get your head in the game and go for it. My shit talking is meant to as a way to fuel the fire so don't ever take it like I am putting you down big man. Now man up and do it!

Of course you could and the contest may be a drive you need. I would say before you put anything into effect you talk to a few 'experts' and have them check over training and diet and set goals along the way. The key will be not to let emotion along the way change your plan once in effect more than just tweaking. If you had that covered I think you could do real well and definately a possible for winning.

I want to point out the folly of the "if I don't win, it isn't worth doing" mindset. I'm not saying Skel has this mindset, but it seems he could. It's a competition, you should want to win and try as hard as you can to win, but it is the journey that makes it worth it. If you come into the finals with your best physique ever, why wouldn't you be proud and grinning ear to ear no matter where you place? Heck, I'm pushing guys twice my size to join the open just so I have some crazy motivation to draw on. I'm WAY outsized, but I will achieve a much better physique than I did last year, and that's what matters most to me.

I agree, I don't think there was a single competitor from last year that finished that walked away feeling like a loser. EVERYONE that finished made fantastic changes.

Default I second that.

Check out the final scores from the IMPC this year. Let's just say I didn't finish very high. I was really pretty bummed out because I know I was capable of much more. I realized that I blew it and was disappointed in myself. However, I am very glad that I did it and I am proud of the trophy EME sent out. Also, after refocusing I can now honestly say that right now I look better than I ever have. If I would not have been involved with the IMPC I don't think I would have learned to appreciate what it truly takes and I would be getting up on the stage in 4 weeks completely unprepared.

If you truly want to make a physical change, find that one reason that matters to you most and focus on that. Make the committment and enter and I truly believe you will be better off for it even if you do not place in the top three.

Great post. I am with Madman on the tiny scale. Well so I am a foot taller Actually this is a huge disadvantage to me. I have a very tall frame to fill and I doubt I have the time this year to do it but damn I am gonna try. I like MM want all you big MF'ers in here. I need more than lil old MM to keep me motivated. You can do it as soon as you set your mind to it!

Sign-up is in April. EME is the guy who runs the show and he will post more info as the time approaches. As it stood last year, there were no restrictions on substance use in the open division. In the novice division, competitors were prohibited from using PHs or AAS.

oh thats not what i mean by restriction because all i use is whey.....and sometimes BCAA's but I dont even use creatine because it supposedly it isnt good for my kidneys or liver according to the doctor. So, im limited to way and BCAA's for health purposes, which has worked good for me so far. by restrictions i meant , like height , weight, divisions, what exactly is the goal of the IMPC?
