Default cutting question

ok so i am getting ready for my second atempt at cutting, after having bad results my first time, last year.this link http://www.abcbodybuilding.com/13wee...urningdiet.php
says you should calorie cycle, having high and low days, but what i was wondering is if i just lower the carbs every couple of weeks will i end of getting the results that i want?

last year when i first tried to cut, i immediately dropped the calories by 500 and did cardio on an empty stomach.i loss both strenght and size and after a few weeks gave up on cutting and started to bulk again

this is what i will get from my cutting diet

#1 protein-329 carbs-300 fat-52 calories-3057

#2 protein-323 carbs-294 fat-36 calories- 2857

#3 protein-318 carbs-277 fat-35 calories-2767

#4 protein-313 carbs-260 fat-34 calories-2677

#5 protein-308 carbs-233 fat-31 calories- 2527

im planning on doing hiit after workouts for 90 minutes a week

ABC is a good site. Lots of quality information.

Generally, refeeding or gradual cycling of calories is a necessity to maintain metabolic stamina. Given that protein must stay high, and carbs are essential for what I think of as the "respiration" of the muscles, you should first cut the fat out of your diet. NOt completely of course, but to a 5 or 10% max. Eventually you will want to cut back on carbs, but there are many ways to avoid this for quite some time.

Concetrating you carbs to the morning and early afternoon is one strategy. In the example you are looking for, this may be good to do for say... 2 weeks. Then you may want to spend 4 or 5 days with carbs in every meal again to drive of your metabolism. The process of calorie cycling, in some respects, lengthens the durration of a cut, but in the long run, the muscle you will be sparing by doing frequent re-feeds will shorten the time and increase the effectiveness of your next mass gaining effort.

Personally, I don't like to lower my kcals. Instead, I just stay very active and eat at maintenance. This works very well for me, and as long as you don't have rediculous endo qualities or work a seditary day job, it may be worth giving a try.

My brain just vommited on you...

To sum it up: Yes, cycling your kcals, more specifically, your carbs, is a good way to keep for metabolic suicide.

Don't forget your multi.

I don't understand why you posted the link to a very good article that contains info used by many top BBers to cut bodyfat and then you immediately ask if you can do something else. Just follow the article at ABC. Calorie cycling is better for many reasons, including helping to maintain your metabolism at a high level and also to help maintain current muscle mass levels.

You mean like my 30 second rest interval training for fat loss?

You know t-nation has an article on their site about it. I didn't get the idea from them, but I thought that I'd mention it in case anyone wants to go and read it.

As far as I'm concerned the 30 second interval method works for cutting in the same way HIIT does.,...... only 10x more enjoyable.

If you cut your carbs little by little each week all you're really going to do is make yourself lethargic and weak due to lack of glycogen in the muscles and glucose in the blood. If want to 'play' with carbs it's either 'all or nothing' (ketogenic cyclic diets) or carb cycling diets with spontaneous low and high carb days. The idea is that in the absense of carbs the body has no choice but to burn fat for fuel.... the catch is that under many situations your body will convert protein/muscle into glucose (in fact this happens every day no matter what you're doing, even if you're bulking)

As for that 500 calorie defecit.... either it was much more than a 500 calorie defecit OR you were only losing strength because of reduced levels of glycogen, liver glucose, etc.... which occurs naturally in any type of calorie defecit. Losing strength does not always incur muscle loss (and vice versa).

each week you would subtract 200 off of ALL calorie intakes.... this is not necessary... and is meant only as a guideline for rebalancing your food levels to take into account weight/metabolism change. If you're losing... you don't need to change anything. In fact you probably shouldn't.

i really don't know b/c i'm not familiar with the diet imo you don't need to change calorie levels unless it stops working
