Default Come to me my overweight brothers, let us discuss fat loss.

It's so empty and desolate on this board. I don't even know where to begin

I suppose I could post my story and progress pics or something? :bb:

It's the classic problem of people won't post unless there's people already posting

LOL, very true. You have a lot of good info and experience to share from your own transformation so start filling this section and I'm sure people will start posting.

It's going to be hard building up this board with no newbs coming in and asking the same question over and over

I am considering moving my fat loss journal over here though... ironmass is growing on me like a bad case of athlete's foot.

I have 20% body fat (from what my scale says) which probably isn't correct, but it will help me track what I gain and lose body fat wise.

I play high school football, weigh 192 (from what the scale said) today. Trying to gain a few pounds of muscle, main goal is to get bigger. I was thinking about bulking for a while to get a higher weight for lineman. I have 280 lb. guys going against me in my freshman year.

But overall, in the off season i would like to get down around 10%.

I am doing basic strength training with low rep ranges and basic compound lifts for 2 days a week now for maintenance. But I will step it to 3 workouts a week soon.

Suggestions?

Nah, if you really want to make him feel at home you have to ask questions that are both inane and pointless like:

Fitday says a cup of oatmeal has 145 calories but the oatmeal label says 147 calories. Which one should I use when I calculate my totals?

*************

Sigh.

But seriously, we need more newbies here on all the boards.

Well, since you're trying to gain size and strength, it sounds like you're on the right track. You need the size for football. Just don't put weight on too drastically otherwise it will be too much fat.

PERSONALLY, I wouldn't want to bulk at 20% bodyfat, since anything over 18 is considered "over weight" and anything over 23% is considered "obese". If you bulk fast and hard, your Bodyfat percentage WILL go up. If I was in your situation, I would bulk very, very slowly. Approximately 500 calories a day over maintenance. (1lb per week) and I'd stop if I was putting on too much fat.

Also remember that if you want to be 10% in the off season, it takes a LONG time for most people to drop a full 10% bodyfat, especially if you're not genetically inclined to remain lean.

Well my genetics don't make me fat, I just like to eat plain and simple. I ate to much when i was young and liked candy and I was always athletic, played sports year round. I think I can easily get down to 10% body fat in a few months.

Last year when I played football I went from 50% body fat and 190 or so pounds to 27% at 180. And that was in a month and a half. So I know I can easily do this.

I think I'll stick with the bulk for now, looking to gain more muscle then fat hopefully. Practice and games along with workouts should help in burning a lot of calories. I'll see what I come up with in all for calories burned.

If you were 50% Bodyfat, I'm sorry, but you are genetically inclined to be fat, and if not by genetics, then your own inducing. What happens when gaining fat is that your body creates new fat cells. The problem is that when you lose weight, your body does not get rid of the new cells.... which means when you bulk, you will put on fat fast and hard. If you've had issues controlling your fat in the past, I would really recommend being careful when it comes to bulking. Very careful.

Also, going from 50% to 27% is MUCH different than going from 20 to 10%, once you're sub 15% (higher for some of us endomorphic people) you are fighting all of your bodies mechanisms to store fat.

Ok, I understand it is hard to get down to lower body fat percents. But i believe I can easily do it.

I seem to lose and gain pretty fast too. It depends on what I am doing, eating, resting, timing etc.

Phil, Bam Mangera's father on "Celebrity Fit Club" was 47% I believe. 330lbs and around 6' if I remember right.

47% though, that's just hard to even imagine -- just, getting to that point is what blows my mind away.
