Question CKD Idea

So, as a few of you know, I'm planning on doing a keto cut for about 4 weeks or maybe 5 if I can handle it.

I'm still figuring out the main points of it, but I was doing some research and I turned up something interesting on t-nation:

Get this, John Berardi, Mr. "Massive Eating" himself, will occasionally go on a stint where he eats 3 meals a day, totaling about 2,000 calories, interspersed with three 10-gram "feedings" of BCAA.

The large amounts of BCAA offset any potential muscle loss from the fairly severe bout of calorie restriction.
So, for me personally 2100 calories or around is what I need to lose 1lb a week according to most major calculators and such. Now, what if, in following in Berardi's footsteps, if I split the 2100 into 3 meals (breakfast, mid-afternoon, late afternoon) and in between them, and after the last meal, have ~10grams of BCAA?

It would make it a bit easier on me, as splitting 2100 calories into 5-6 meals is killer to me (past experience). So then I can keep the carbs extremely low, except on the carb up Friday afternoon to Saturday, and then just take the BCAA's normally (gotta establish "normal" for that) on that day.

Any thoughts, feelings?

I'm also planning on running a stim during this cut as well, probably Leviathan if Dave is up for it :-D If not, I'm tossing it between Venom tri lean and HRX with maybe ephedrine tagging alone if I feel I can handle it.

I don't know, I don't think it would hurt to ask around on t-nation or even PM him himself, but I would assume it would be at least restricted carbs.

Sounds like PSMF. I've been doing PSMF on my off days for a couple weeks now. Weight has held fairly steady, dropped a belt notch and a bit already, starting to look a bit leaner in the midsection.
It's a tough thing to do but it works well. You're pretty much on zero-to-trace carbs. Usually I'll just have protein shakes, tuna, egg whites and chicken. I usually throw in some green beans in my chicken meal, but I don't really count them as carbs anyways.

I don't usually track my calories on a PSMF day, but I would ballpark it to be 1,700-2,000 cals max.

I believe builtbeast also does something similar.

I've been thinking about it, and I think I'm leaning more towards this, as it will give me less of a chance of sneaking in carbs as I only have 3 meals a day and not 6 or so.

I gotta plot out the foods exactly, but I think breakfast might end up being like 4/5 eggs and sausage, 2nd meal being chicken or beef or pork and 3rd meal being chicken beef or pork (whichever one wasn't eaten in the last meal). Plus the protien shake on training days.

I've never really needed a lot of carbs to function. Don't know how some guys can eat 500g regularly, I feel bloated like a whale eating more than 350. I average about 150g on my workout days and 50-75 on my PSMF off days.

Yep, you're safe in that assumption.

So, from what I have gathered, even though BCAA's spike insulin a bit, I should be safe with it during keto, or do you hardcore people (skel, I'm staring at you) think I should just stick to 5-6 meals and deal with it?

alright, I did some more reading and since BCAA's give a quick boost to insulin, and insulin needs to be low to get into ketosis, I won't be doing the 3 meal a day thing. So i'll just do the normal 5-6 meals a day with maybe BCAA during the workout.

I'm experimenting with BCAA b4 bed and pre/post workout

Agree on that. I asked my g/f to try that for me, she wasn't amused.

Rommie. why will you eat sausage and pork on such a diet? Ditch that crap if you really want to cut. I could never eat that and feel good about my diet. I do have one day a week that I MIGHT eat something off my diet.

The BCAAs are good anytime, especially if you are doing morning fasted cardio.
