Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 51 | MOP, There is nothing necessarily wrong with Milk. When I'm working to add size, it's a staple of my diet. I drink a TON of skim milk with my whey protein to help with adding quality mass.. When cutting, it really depends how carb sensitive a person is, as to whether or not they should include it. If people have more difficulty cutting, and need to limit their carbs to a few choices...they may not want additional carbs included with their protein sources. Instead, they choose protein sources like egg whites, tuna, chicken, whey powder with water, etc.. that provide quality protein with no extra carbs. The carb / calorie ratio of milk isn't really good enough to use it as a primary carb source to someone who gains fat easily. Meaning, you get too many calories and not enough carbs per serving for it to be the best carb choice. Additionally, some people have reactions to lactose ( the sugar in milk ) that cause them to retain water when they drink a lot of it, or that cause them gastrointestinal problems. Furthermore, if someone is following a diet plan designed to induce ketosis ( Not my recommendation ), the lactose in milk can take them out of ketosis. So, often the best choice for someone who has more difficulty losing fat is to go for protein sources that provide pure, low fat protein, and carb choices that provide, pure low GI carbs. However, some people do just fine with higher carbs when cutting and and get great results when including skim milk in their plan. I'm preparing a competitor right now for a show on June 11th. He's blessed with great genetics and responds very well to cutting diets. Hes' currently taking in between 36 and 60 oz of Skim Milk per day with his Whey protein, and he's totally ripped. So, it's not a golden rule that you should eliminate milk when cutting, and I think skim milk is a staple of a good mass building nutrition plan. Bottom line, find out how your body reacts. If you can include it and get good results, by all means do so! - EME

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 47 | Wow. Thanks for the informative reply! I'm addicted to milk, and I have made lots of good gains with it, but many people dislike it, and I was never sure why. I never have had gas problems with it, so I guess I'm good to go. The only thing that I remember reading was that milk (even skim milk) can increase body fat. Have you heard this before, and how would it increase body fat (if it really does)?

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 51 | Milk doesn't inherently increase body fat any more than any other food. Consuming more calories than you burn increases body fat. Whole Milk is a calorie dense food, and even skim milk has a lot of calories per serving.. however, that's because you get a lot of nutrients in a serving. If you are consuming a lot of milk, you will be taking in a lot of calories. Whether they are good or bad, if you're taking in more than you need, you will gain weight. So, it really comes down to having a good nutrition plan, knowing what you are putting in your body, and determining how many calories, carbs, protein, and fat you need to achieve your goals. - EME Quote:

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 0 | Some people (I'm told mostly Asian and sometime people of African origin) are intolerant to milk. Many asian people drink lassi, which i think is some sort or fermented/sweetened form of milk. |

Unless it's mixed with a little sugar, cream, and chocolate and then gets frozen! I never have drank milk. In kindergarten, I had water while everyone else had milk with their graham crackers.

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 0 | whole milk is a persect ratio of macronutrients - why? because along with some other foods its nature's food. IMO in the best of worlds - 'if its manmade then dont eat it' (Jack Lalanne 92years young...) Calcium also helps significantly with fat loss ![]() |
