Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 44 | So I finally went and did the math on Splenda 1 cup sugar: 770kcal 1 cup Splenda: 96kcal That's terrible! When I use Splenda in my oats I put like half a cup in there. So if I have oats twice a day thats an extra 96kcal unaccounted for! Not to mention my carb ups when I might have it more than twice a day. Splenda... you broke my heart. Just ordered 2 bottles of Healthy Cheat Foods liquid sucralose from Nutraplanet.

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 160 | 100 cals? No big deal, especially compared to 800. That's only an eighth of the amount of calories. As for a half cup in your oats... I put two packets and think it's too sweet lol.

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 60 | Uh... why are you using half a cup of splenda? You must use the granular baking variety. I use the splenda in the individual packets and two or three of those is enough to sweeten 1/2 or 3/4 cup of oats no problem. The caloric value of each of those packets is next to nothing.

| FDU Devils Weightlifter | isn't splenda marketed as a no-calorie sweetner? Man they keep on lying more and more then.

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 60 | It isn't truly no calorie. I think one packet has less than a whole calorie, so it can be marketed as 'no calorie'. The baking variety may have some additional carbohydrate as part of the granulating process... they have to add more volume to the product so it actually occupies volume in a recipe, as sugar would.

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 44 | Yeah, I'm using the granulated baking stuff. It must have way more maltodextrin than the packets if you say two is sweet enough.

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 2 | I would hardly call 1/8th of the calories "not much better". Why would you use half a cup? Thats enough to sweeten a couple of gallons of tea. If your that worried, but pure sucralose or stevia. The store bought stuff has maltodextrin fillers that add the calories. The pure stuff is expensive, VERY potent, but has absolutely no calories. |
