Default Something I noticed and turned into an experiment.

I get sore. In fact, I get really sore.

My post workout nutrition is normally as followed:

PWO shake (Immediate): 30g Dextrose, 15g whey, 1 grinded up multi.
35-45 minutes later: Whole food meal with 70g carbs, 50 grams protein, and some nuts.

For fun, I decided to change things up and see what happened.

For the last 3 weeks, I've used 20g dextrose, 10g whey and 1 grinded up mutli (Immediate).
This held me until I could get to the quiznos (15 minutes). I get the LARGE Chicken Cabanara on a standard white roll.

I haven't been sore....

I estimate the sub is around 800 to 1000 kcals. A cheat in my book. I imagine somewhere around 80 grams of protein, 100 grams CHO, and 20 grams fat. I've never really felt more anabolic in my life since I started doing that. I have stretch marks now. I've never had stretch marks in the past.

I looked through my log, and have done NOTHING differently other than change my PWO feeding. My lifts have been great, although they havn't gone up signficantly. My weight has increasted about 2 lbs (timed mean ave.) I've been looking leaner as well.

Anyone else ever expereinced this?

As a control, I went back to my old PWO plan and was.... you guessed it.... sore again.

PS: I practice a WSB prog, eat 4500 kcals daily, all clean (besides the sub).

Don't forget your multi

I think it might be, he justs has a quick shake to temporarily give nutrients until he eats the sub only 15 minutes later, but idk.

I know when I am cutting, and in a caloric deficit I am a lot more sore, and for a lot longer than when I am bulking...

I agree eat a massive hi calorie meal after lifting.. your body can absorb a lot of nutrients at this time...

Ah I see. I was thinking about this at school, and I truely don't see how lowering the amount of high glycemic index carbohydrates immediatly post workout would effect the amount of DOMS.

I could see lowering the carbs throughout the day.... but not immediatly post. If anything I'd think it would increase DOMS. Interesting....

O/T EDIT: Quiznos is amazing. They have the best plain turkey sub on wheat hands down. I've only had one other sub of theres (and it was a cheat meal). No cheese, no dressing, no anything other than onions, lettuce, meat, and whole wheat bread and they STILL manage to make it taste amazing.

Amino acids are really good for getting rid of, or even preventing DOMS....

Nutrition makes a huge difference in how sore most people get. Stretching and proper cooldown can also make a huge difference. When I do legs I have to do a good cooldown and stretch set afterwards or the next three days are a living hell. Plenty of calories gives your muscles a good jump on repair and new growth.
