For a bodybuilder or anyone else concerned with reducing body fat, trans fats are something that should be avoided because they are found in processed junk foods.

When trans fatty acids are consumed, they are incorporated into cellular membranes, where they could alter metabolic processes, but I haven't seen any data detailing specific effects on metabolic pathways. It is all purely speculative at this point. A lot of the information you find on websites in health articles is bunk or conjecture. If an article doesn't cite peer-reviewed research articles, take the information with a grain of salt. What is clear, however, is the epidemiological data linking trans fats to cardiovascular disease. As I said, since trans fats are found primarily in junk food, they shouldn't be a major concern for the diligent bodybuilder. Many junk food makers have curtailed their trans fat use since the media lit their 'trans fats are evil' torch. I'm suprised by how long it took the media to latch onto the story; the effects of trans fats on cardiovascular health were being studied as far back as the early 80s.
