Me loves quinoa. Cheap, yummy and hyper-nutritious. Are you eating the red or the yellow variety? They have different tastes.

Here is some info. on it:

http://www.wholehealthmd.com/refshel...523,74,00.html

http://www.specialfoods.com/quinoa.html#

and:

Quote:
Quinoa is a cereal grain from Peru, which is closely related to the amaranth; quinoa is in the Goosefoot family, Chenopodiaceae. The seed is about 1/8 inch in diameter. It is cooked and eaten much like oatmeal.

There are about 1480 calories in one pound of quinoa flour or seeds. The composition of the flour is approximately: 55.3% carbohydrates, 13.1% protein, 5.8% fat, 13.6% fiber, 9.3% water, and 2.9% minerals.

dnyc was your grandma peruvian? Chilean?

I just boil it and then add to a veggie/meat stirfry. I make it spicy. It is also said to be great as a breakfast cereal but I have not tried that. Yet.

Hmmm..I see this stuff in the Natural Foods section of my store and I always wondered how it tasted. I'd rather eat something like this then rice so maybe it should be my new replacement. Grunt I like spicy too, do you have a recipe for it?

Yeh: mix some stuff up.

Seriously nope I don't have any. I just use whichever meat and veggies are available. Fry some onion & garlic, add chopped broccoli and peas, then red hot chili peppers and add meat or shrimp. Stir-fry and add the cooked Quinoa. You may add some chicken broth if it's a little dry. I like it with shrimp a lot.
