Default Pumpkin Seeds..

Who used the pumpkin seeds from their jack o' lanterns? I turned mine into a healthy snack ^_^ Pumpkin seeds contain EFAs and damn do they taste good.

I boiled mine in a mixture of salt, garlic powder, and chili flakes and then transfered them to a perforated pizza pan to bake in the oven for about 20 minutes until slightly brown. They kick ass! Since we had three pumpkins, I have a crap load of pumpkin seeds now. ^_^

I've never boiled them but every year we season and bake them. Good, easy healthy snack!

You boil them in the brine solution to make sure they're actually salty, but not overly so.

I see. I avoid salt cause I used to have high BP (190/100) and cause I just don't like salty foods and don't need sodium bloat. I'm sure they taste better that way, though! :nosthumbs

I love pumpkin seeds, they are delicious. I haven't had a real pumpkin in a few years but I used to save the seeds from the Halloween pumpkin and roast them in the oven.

I've never tried the boil method, sounds good though.

As you said they are a good source for EFA's, plus other vitamins/nutrients:

  • Vitamin A
  • Calcium
  • Iron
  • Protein
  • B1, B2 and B3
  • Fiber
  • L-tryptophan
  • Curcurbitin
  • Phytosterols
