Default pre work out nutrition sticky?

Donde esta? lol....where is it? I wish I had the exact know how to write one up but I don't, maybe powerman can make one? I see the post work out one, but shouldn't pre work out nutrition be emphasized more than post work out?

IMO, it'll hurt you more to have poor pre work out nutrition than post work out.

Just thought I'd suggest it.

Default Re: pre work out nutrition sticky?

well, although I believe there should be a sticky on this, there are many views on pre-workout nutrition based on goals. Frankly, it's one's nutrition during the 36 hours leading up to a training session which will impact their results. Surely, adequate kcals must be taken in 1-4 hours prior to training, but even then, there is much debate over this subject.

Personally, I like liquid kcals pre-training to keep the blood away from my stomach and in around my muscle tissue. Others believe fibrous, complex carbs are the ultimate energy source. I also see many great lifters do nothing but 4 or 5 tbls of PB pre-training. It keeps their insulin low, it's very dense, and will not bloat you.

I see it this way:

option a) HUGE carb meal 2.5-3 hours prior to training (protein with it of course)

option b) lots of fat w/ protein 1 hours prior

c) nice size meal 3 hours prior, then 30-70g of dextrose (depending on ur stats) w/ BCAA and monohydrate 20minutes and during training.

I subscribe to all three depending on my training for that day, and schedule. If it's a big time training day (for me... a 1rm off the box, max triple out of the rack), i'll do a comination of (a) and (c).

my thoughts.

Almost every interview I read, or video I watch, as far as bodybuilders go.. Oatmeal is by far the answer I hear the most when pre workout nutrition is discussed.

I myself have been eating oatmeal 1 to 1.5 hours preworkout, and it works great for me...

i may get flamed for this... but don't count on the protein in quinoa to do anything. Animal products are the complete sources of amino acids. Everything else isn't worth counting.

Isn't that like saying BCAA isn't worth counting?

Or taking Leucine to improve protein synthesis?

But that doesn't mean it doesn't help.......like beans. I just don't like eating it mainly as carbs though, and I can't eat chicken with oatmeal..yuck
