The bolded ingredients I would not eat on a daily basis.

It's probably a lot healthier than what the average person eats but still gets a 5/10 for cleanness on my scale.

Your granola bar would probably serve as a sweet cheat for me or if I was on the run and had to grab something quick. Not great, but not horrible either.

I think it was Kashi Granola Bars that I had that were pretty decent too. They have both crunchy and chewy bars.

yazf, you still have a ton to learn about nutrient timing as it relates to activity level and ingredients. Things like that granola are not only okay, but beneficial when consumed at the correct time and with the correct other macronutrients. It is still about understanding how macronutrients are used in your body.

When would you suggest eating this as far as nutrient timing goes? I have been looking into nutrient timing as of late, but I'm still learning. Your feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks,

well, i'm not necessarily speaking in terms of a timed carb diet or anything (which i get the feeling you are referring to). I'm just thinking in terms of logical feeding. Simpler (med-high GI, if that is better for you) carbs can be beneficial after periods of activity and early in the day.

I, for instance, have seen absolutely no difference between Cinnamon Toast Crunch and oatmeal when eaten for breakfast. For me, cinnamon toast crunch is a better selection because it digests faster leaving me able to eat more, and it is far more tasty than oats. It largely depends on goals though. Your body is in serious need of fuel in the mornings... why force it to digest something as complex as oats, leaving it catabolic for even longers. If i am walking around all day, I know i want to jump back into an anabolic state... what better way than to hit something with a little sugar. Granola has a very balanced source of carbs. Some are fast digesting, and some are slow digesting. Just look at the ingredients. Understand WHY you are eating what you do, and u'll begin to fuel your body more efficiently.

Honestly, the more I read about carb timing the less I worry about it and just concentrate on macronutrient ratios and total calories. I never thought about med-hi GI for breakfast to quickly "refuel". I was actually doing the opposite thinking about the fact that my body would have to work harder and longer to metabolize my meal...never thought about the fact that the tank was empty. Thanks for the feedback.

it largely depends on goals though... but only partially. I know on a cut, i make half my breakfast carbs dextrose, and the other half oats. I like the balance.

If you were bulking what would you do? Would you shoot for a higher GI?

def not. Unless ur talking about just breakfast. Breakfast is your time to eat what you'd like, as long as your macros are in check. I keep my carbs complex for the rest of the day (pastas, potato and rice). But if u go sledding or something...(iduno), you might want to go simpler afterwards.

whey and egg are both fine. Tuna would be less than optimal.
