Default Egg Whites....raw?

Hello, I am interested in adding 1 or 2 eggs (no yoke) to my daily protein shakes because I hate to cook them every single day. lol

My question is would it be better to buy "egg beaters" from the supermarket or just do raw shelled egg whites? Im a little worried about salmonila...

Thanks.

btw - im trying to up my protein also so this would allow me to consume more in my shakes, still leaving room for some food.

I would not eat them raw and if you do get the brand "ALl whites" if you want to eat them raw they are pasterized. Either way not a fan of drinking raw whites.

If you're trying to increase protein intake cook your eggs. Cooking them increases their bioavailability and the overall amount of protein you'll take up.

As Blap said, eating them raw gives little to no protein due to the biotin in the eggs (I believe that's why)

Raw eggs are bad for 2 main reasons... 1) They may be contaminated with Salmonela and 2) Raw eggs contain an enzyme Avidin that can create a vitamin B deficency. Cooking is a must however doing so also denatures some of the proteins (that's why they go from mostly clear to white) which means they also lose some of their bio-availability. Egg Beaters are ok but expensive and contain additives like perservatives and fillers... go pure!

Eggbeaters.com:
Do you have to be careful handling and cooking Egg Beaters?
Unlike traditional whole eggs, all egg alternative products are pasteurized, eliminating the threat of serious illness or death by salmonella poisoning. This means people can safely eat Caesar salad dressing, protein shakes or other foods that traditionally contain uncooked eggs that would otherwise increase their risk of exposure to dangerous salmonella bacteria.

Go to a store that sells food items in bulk to get a better price.

I use the shoprite brand of egg beaters when I do use egg whites as my mom won't let me seperate the yolks :-/

I cook mine so. P.S Egg beaters/egg substitutes taste like ass imo
