Default Eating before working out

Can anyone tell me why people eat before they workout??? Is it just for energy, or should you really eat before working out? I just usually eat right after working out, having a detour bar.

Eating before working out gives you nutrients for energy and so muscles don't catabolize. And for what to eat, I personally don't take a lot of carbs pre-workout. My pre-workout is about 40-60 grams of protein with maybe some fats and post-workout is carbs and protein.

My pre workout meal is usually half a cup of oats and a glass of milk with 2 rice cakes. I eat this about 30-45 minutes before my workout.

I eat 150g cottage cheese or a protein bar. Nothing really heavy b/c I'm always on the edge of puking when I push myself beyond the limits.

Exactly, avoid heavy meals within an hour of lifting. I personally feel best having a full quality meal about 1- 1.5 hours before lifting. Full as in quality protein, carbs, and fat. :eat:

Yep, my usual preworkout meal is a hefty bowl of oatmeal with milk and protein powder :eat: a cup of coffee and some fish oil.

Post this in the nutrition section.

Anyway, keep it simple with a ton of carbs. One's kcals should be consentrated largely in their pre and post workout feedings. Personally, of my 4500 kcals each day, close to 2000 of them are consumed during the 4 hour period around my workout. This is best for energy, sparing muscle, and recovery.

Don't forget your multi

EXACTLY what I do. No food in the 60 minutes preworkout except maybe a banana to fill the dead space if I'm late to my workout. I'll have a pretty good meal ending 90 minutes prior to my first lift and that is what gives me the most juice. Interestingly, I have more energy if that meal is at least the second of the day. IOW I can't have a big breakfast and then train 90 minutes later and expect to have a 100% workout. 90% yes, but never 100%. For that I need at least another meal prior.

Same for me lifting after a big breakfast is pretty pointless

Most of the sugar in bananas is fructose. Fructose does not spike insulin at all.

I've been sharing information about bodybuilding over the 'Net since 1994 and lifting since 1991... AND reading everything I can get my hands on about this since 1991....
