Default Dextrose with Breakfast?

20gs if I'm out of fruit? I know they arnt the same.... but breakfast is kinda like PWO right?

Personally, I do oats and protein at breakfast.

I generally save the Hi GI carbs for actual post workout nutrition. But, I'm not really big on HI GI carbs anyway, unless they are part of a cheat meal.

It's unlikely that any carbs you take in first thing in the morning are going to be stored, unless you have a really inactive day, so you should be OK with that if you must to go that route.

I'd recommend oats over sugar though if you have a choice...much better sustained energy for your morning.

im with EME on this one (as i usually am)....i eats oats at breakfast due to them being LowGI carbs. I usually mix my oats and eggs together and eat it that way (similar to what ronnie does with gritz and eggs) and then i top off my breakfast with a double scoop of protein. the only time i eat HiGI carbs are post workout to cause an insulin spike; and my PWO shake is 2 scoops protein + 1 scoop (50% dex/ 50% malto) mix, then about and 30-45 minutes later i have dinner.

I'm sorry. I didn't specify...


My normal breakfast:

1 banana and 1 scoop of whey-Drink this while i make:
120g Oats and 6 egg whites


I'm not leaving out the oats. I'm just wondering if I can replace the banana with dextrose.

I would not recommend dextrose over a banana or dexrose at all. I don't buy into the hype with having a high GI carb postworkout. I think one can minimize fat gains and control blood sugar levels much better if you stick to low GI like oats instead. I did the entire dextrose+matlo thing aout 5 years ago and remember it making me crash and left me feeling bloated. I have not looked back since .

Hmmmm.... Thanks Justin. You all are making me think about my PWO nutrition. I know 80 grams of dextrose at once PWO is pretty insane, but what about 40g, half of which are chugged, and the rest sipped on for another 30 minutes of so.... any ideas on that? That is what I have been doing. After the 30 mintes, I eat a whole food meal with 80g oats and some lean protein...

I want to add the convinience of the PWO shake anway... I mean, I just can't see eating a bowl of oats PWO... I can barely eat as it is, but whole food. I think I'd heave it. I'm not really all that hungry immediately after a hard workout. It takes about an hour... then i'm RAVENOUS

I wouldn't have dextrose. If you don't have a banana have an extra amount of oatmeal or some other low GI carb if you want to replace the carbs.

I myself don't eat high GI carbs except PW.

I'm the same way, I have the shake immediately as the PW meal and then the oats and whole food about an hour later for PPW meal.

I'm the same way, I have the shake immediately as the PW meal and then the oats and whole food about an hour later for PPW meal.
