The Doc

This is one of those gray areas of labeling that tends to mislead people. When you buy a can of Pam or Canola oil spray and the label says 0 grams of fat per serving, but the ingredients are %100 canola oil (and usually propellant). How in the world can oil have no fat in it? If it is less than .5g per serving they can round down to zero, but it's still 100% fat in that can. You see canola oil has 14g of fat per 1 Tbsp which is 1/2 an ounce, an ounce is 28 grams, so seeing that there's 14g of fat in 14g of canola oil, it's 100% fat. There is .25g of fat in a spray of .25g, but since it's less than .5g they can round it down to zero. If you sprayed 1 Tbsp (about 14 seconds) it would be 56 servings and have 14 grams of fat, the same as pouring it out of a bottle. There are some out there that have less than that when sprayed because there is water added to it, but as soon as your pan is heated up the water evaporates and the oil is left behind. So you might as well just buy a good canola or olive oil and use that when cooking since you get 5 times the amount of oil for the same price.
