Default Athletes & Diets

i know athletes are suppose to follow diets and such, so they remain freash, energized etc etc

but do they have to follow a strict bodybuilding style of diet where they count calories, protein intake, carb intake etc

cos i was thinking how bodybuilding is actually 80% diet and 20% training. is that the same with sport training?

just a little topic to dicuss, just curious

Most people I know in hockey don't follow a strict diet. Most of them eat shit, get drunk on the weekends and chew tobacco and they all play at high levels. It's not until you start getting up to the more elite (read: proffesional) levels that they start to follow a more strict diet. But I doubt many care much for protein/carb/fat ratios. Just proper usage of carbohydrates before games and whatnot.

Well with all athletes I think should go by a general overall healthy diet eating alot wholesome foods. I would not call it a BB diet ,but in regards to the type of foods I think BB's and athletes should eat the same types of foods for sure but possibly at different ratio's.

Correction:

Bodybuilding is 100% training and between 75 and 95% nutrition.

That is, you must train to create hypertrophy, and you will see only 5 to 25% of the gains without proper nutrition (unless of course you are a genetic mesomorphic freak. Then you can eat crap and gain).

as an athlete I find nutrtion very important. I tend to eat more carbs then a bodybuilder, but through proper diet ive seen much better athletic proformance and a much bigger improvment in athletic proformance

Athletes do not need to follow a strict diet mainly because they do not want maximal hypertrophy gains like bodybuilders. Athletes do need to get in a good amount of protein, carbohydrates, and water to nourished their bodies as they are training for sports and weights. So nutrition is not the most important parts for some athletes, training and spirit are the tops. I am not saying eat like shit, but you don't need to be strict, but just get in a good amount of protein and carbohydrates.
