Default Is ~4000 calories enough?

Here's the thing... My weight bounces all over the place, even with a consistent diet... Probably just water weight but I was wondering today... Although I seem to be gaining pretty good off of ~4000 calories, should I eat more?

I ask this because I feel I could eat ALOT more, I'm talking 6000 clean calories and barely bat an eye. I ate 8 hardboiled egg whites, 2 cups oatmeal and 1 banana for breakfast this morning and was hungry within 1 hour. Should I just keep eating? I'm not sure what to do, because I want to do a very clean bulk and try to not gain much fat.

Suggestions?

Base your caloric intake on the mirror.

If you are gaining, and looking better each week, keep doing what you are doing.

If you feel you need to eat more.. bump up your calories, but pay close attention to how you look, how your body changes, and how that fits in with your goals. If your physique starts going in the wrong direction, drop them back a little.

Monitoring how much you weigh is a tool you can use to gauge your progress.. whether cutting or bulking..

But, it's just a tool. Ultimately, if you are training to improve your appearance, it's how you look in the mirror that is the most important measuring stick.

EME is right. I stopped looking at the scale and BF analyzer. I look at it about once every month or two. I base my gains on the mirror. Calories are difficult subject. Energy needs are extremely personalized, and the only way to REALLY know is to experiment. I know that stinks, but that's the way to find out. I spend a good 4 months really dialing in my caloric needs. If u are playing tennis AND lifting, you will probably need more than 4,000... but I don't know your body type so it is difficult. I do little activity outside my lifting simply because it is tough for me to eat enough to gain if I do. I sit on my butt all day and eat 4,000 (I am small too).

Tips for eating more kcals....

-Beef up the Breakfast- This is a crucial time to get back into an anabolic state. I eat nearly 1/4 of my total kcals in the first 1.5 hours of my day. This both makes it easier to meet my caloric needs for the day and gives me awsome energy for my workout.

-Milk with every meal- Depending on your dairy decision, I find that simply having an 8 oz glass of skim milk with every meal helps me reach my caloric needs.

-3 am snack- Although heavily argued... drink 1 litre of water right before bed... it will wake you up in the night... munch down a beef burger of some CC. U'll be set to go.

Oh, and yeh...

Don't forget your Multi

What's this supposed to mean?

Perhaps I will do what EME and DJSTARER said. BTW DJSTARER I swim, not play tennis :P. Also, I really wanna watch getting fat cuz I'm kinda self conscious about myself being a jammer (a longer speedo) 5 times a week.

Srry, i was tired. Anway, Forget about getting fat. If you eat clean, eat often and do all the cardio it sounds like you are doing... fat gains will be minimal. Gains, in general will be difficult to make while swimming. Cardio, in high frequency, has some very anti-anabolic qualities. You are going to have to eat a lot of food. More than you think.

Every time I start incorperating cardio 2 or three X a week, my gains stop. This is with a caloric intake about 500/day over my non cardio time. Your body uses a ton more kcals from cardio than simply the time and distance you spend doing it would leave you to believe.

if you can do it, eat 5-6k super clean cals. if youre not gaining too much fat then its all good
just avoid too high fat intake, and eat whole wheat bread instead of white bread, brown rice instead of white rice etc. to get a shitload of fiber. If I were you Id watch out with the whole eggs as they have lotsa cholesterol, so if youre gonna eat 10+ whole eggs a day watch out for it!

dude, can you really, really eat 2 cups of oatmeal? you have an inhuman appetite, I wish I had that too
