It would be helpful if members put their true location in their profile, not just something like "in the kitchen" or "on the bench", as it helps to know where the person is when responding to a post! Same thing with your age....especially when giving health and training advice, as your age is a great determinant in what may be the health problem and what advice to give!! |

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 68  | We cant really "tell" everyone to put their real location.. some people are just not comfortable giving that kind of information out on a public message board, and everyone should respect that.. If you need to know someone's age and it is not in their profile.. then all you have to do is ask.. we cant force people to put this kind of information in their profile.. some people just are not comfortable filling that kind of info out for everyone to see..

You could take a 45 year old guy and think "Hey he's giving advice, 45 y/o -- he kows his stuff". That's why we setup the "Experience" under the username. Better way, than age or location, as to what is a truly "experienced" individual. JMO.

When in fact they may use an ISP like aol who's IP are registered to many different states. Also many ISP's block all such info .. Why does it matter where a user is from? Do you fear redneck advice?

For health issues, the person's age is highly relevant. And it saves a having to post "how old are you" and waiting for a response etc etc Location, even it is just the country they are in, is also helpful! Advice I would give to someone who I know is in Australia is different to what I would say to someone in New Zealand, England or the US. It's not as if people are expected to put their street address and post code you know...what is there to be uncomfortable about letting people know which country of maybe state you are in?? | |

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 68 | Well for me.. my advice for someone in Canada, England, Africa, has nothing to do with where they are from.. it has to do with what they want to accomplish..and how they want to accomplish it.. and I dont see a problem with asking what the age is.. when you are waiting for response anyway.. Due to personal issues.. I for one will not put where I am from in my location.. I might in a post give a generic area.. but that is it.. And what it comes down to.. is what each person wants to put in there.. there is not a way we as Mod's, or Admin can force each person to put something that is true, in those spaces.. it just isnt plausible... because each person has the right to keep that info to themselves if they prefer...
