Hmmm thanks for the advice

I actually have been asking this questions to a lot of "fit" and "buff" guys from school, work, and church...

Should I run a lot and lose weight, then, start lifting??

or do running and lifting at the same time?

Seriously? Eat a lot of protein and a lot of carb. You'll need fat for your hormones, but eat whatever you can. Don't worry about fat gain too much, because once you're big enough you strip it all off again. And if someone - be it someone you know personally, or someone over at BB.com - because it's a common catchphrase of those who try to contribute for rep points - tells you to clean bulk, forget it and ask for advice elsewhere.

Start lifting first - if you must do cardio, do it post workout as this will increase the chances of the body bypassing glycogen and using bodyfat for energy, helping you to stay relatively lean.

Good advice. If your working out hard enough the added muscle will do most of the work for you. Do the cardio for heart health and fat control but make muscle gain your goal and the rest will come much easier. Welcome to IronMass.

I just celebrated my 1 month with IM on saturday, it's pretty awesome. College hit me pretty hard on the scale too.

The trick for me thus far has been to force myself to eat often, since being a working student got me into the habit of eating once a day. So, I don't know how often you're eating, but spreading your calories out rather than consuming them all at once definately helps.

And if you can squeeze it in (I finally did this year, and I'm a senior) a phys ed class is a great way of forcing yourself to be fit.

Good shit. Heavy, compound movements. Deadlift, Squat, Barbell Row, Pull Ups, Military Press, Dip and Bench Press. Watch the cardio, beef up the diet. BEEF up the diet. Can I be any more subtle?

The advice above is sound, but don't cut out cardio. The most important muscle in the body is your heart.

Keep it short, fasted and somewhat anaerobic.

WELCOME!
