Default back again, after 20 years!

43 and just quit smoking (4 days and going strong!) and need to get back into the gym, this body is rusty, but always enjoyed the gym.

It's a daunting task to assess what is and what is not working these days - supplemental wise. I'm not into competition, but rather to gain the benefits of strength or weight training as well as to loose a few pounds.

Me - intermittent fastings and supplementing within reason. I do find, regardless of the scientific evidence that glutamine as well as arginine supplementation make a difference - not sure specfically what that difference is, other than, I sleep better with arginine at night (NOS?) and during the day (no workouts) my muscles feel denser from the glutamine supplements. Overall, I think they do wonders.

i also take:
Vit C, 4-10 grams/day
ALCAR (varies)
ALA (varies)
Taurine
Creatine (at least 2 grams/day, sometimes 5)
inositol (about the same as creatine)
choline
and a variety of other supplements that I'm experimenting with such as piracetam.

Any help or advice for a 43 year old man with a good muscular body (previously in my 20s was into serious bodybuidling for about 8 months - damn good foundation, that is.) would be apprecitiated.

Bob, in houston, freakin houston!

Welcome.

I too took a 20 year hiatus from lifting and good health. I quit smoking and started training 2 years ago. It took me about 8 weeks to get back into shape so I could do serious workouts. During that time, I did alternating upper body/lower body workouts 4 times per week. I also walked for an hour per day. Since then I have been doing 5 and 6 day per week lifting routines. I still walk for an hour or more per day. Remember supplements are just that. They will do you good if you have a good diet.

Welcome to the healthy lifestyle.
