Default [Week 22's Topic] - How has BB affected your personal interactions?

This week's topic is how has lifting and bb affected your life when interacting with other people? :beer1:

This is a broad topic which can go all the way from having increased confidence when dealing with other people and dating to people being intimidated by you. :scared1:

How do other people view you? Has it changed your personality? Talk about both positive and negative affects.

Let's hear your thoughts... :bigthumbu

There are positive and negative effects on taking BB serious. One positive is an increase in selfesteem and dedication. This is always good, and needed. It also allows you to meet people that you probably wouldn't have met if you didn't start taking bb serious. A negative aspect to bbing is that you have less time for other things. I have taken bbing seriously the last year, and have cut out drinking. I was a borderline alcoholic drinking every night of the week last year with my best friends, I quit, they didn't... which still causes problems because they don't hang out with me as often now. People view me as a source of knowledge. I may not be the biggest, or the strongest, but I got a lot of information. I am the Charles Glass of my area.

Well BBing has effected my personal interactions and life with both positives and negatives.
One positive thing is I HAVE A SHAPE AGAIN!!! Yipeeee!!!
Other positives of BBing for me is that I get more looks from men that I have known and men that I meet, or see when I am out in public, ( you know, a truck driver hits the air horn on a darn semi when I am walking, and believe me that one sends me into the air!!), or just encounters with men in stores, bars, ect.... Actually I get a lot of stares from many different people, sometimes I have to stop and make sure I did not forget to put some piece of clothing on, or at least on right because I get self concious and think something must not be right! :confused2
Another postitive side is that family members notice, though not all of them are positive about it. Oh well.........
I can wear clothes that I have not been able to wear in years again, and when I look in the mirror I do not hate myself. Well, I would not go that far, because I still do not like what I see, but there is change that I can see and that makes me happy.
The most positive thing about BBing to me though, is that I have a lot more online friends, and I found this forum where I can get help with BBing.
That is how I meant Dawg, and he is one of my most valued friends since I began because he is the one that has stuck by me with this since I started.

The negative side is BBing has about ruined my marriage because my old man has become a blooming, smothering idiot!! For some reason my confidence has ruined his! That is something I guess he will have to deal with though.
My sister laughs at me when I decribe the different muscles because she was married to 2 different body builders and says that it sounds funny coming out of my mouth! Though I don't think it does!
Another thing is, when I shave my legs now I have to be really careful because of the defintion in them I cut myself easier!!! (What a thing to add to the list huh?!)
The eating part of this, no matter how hard I try is a negative too! Just when I think I have it right, I realize that It's not and have to go back to square one and try again!! And after too long at this, you end up with a fixation on food and that is not good and leads to nothing but bad eating!
Another negative is that I never feel that I am lifting enough, or doing it enough or the right way and that leads me to a lot of frustrations. I very seldom am satified with my workout because I always feel something was not done right, or I am lacking something when I am done.

No matter what, I believe that the postitive will always out weigh the negative with bodybuilding.

Lifting has helped me in many ways. I gained around 40 pounds (Not all muscle due to lack of cardio. :p) and my confidence soared. Now, I feel like a fat **** when I look in the mirror because I am not solid. I never wanna go to a football game or whatever, cause I'd rather do deadlifts. I have become addicted to lifting and eating right, but my body sure as hell doesn't show it. Sometimes I feel like the biggest kid on the planet. Other times, I feel like a fatass like the rest of the lot of fat people. BBing has both helped me, and hurt me in ways which I cannot explain. It's like it helped me, but in that same way, it is hurting me. I am in a confused, angry mood, atm. Maybe I should post again through the course of the week.

I'm a lot larger, and people often refer to me as big fella, or big guy. Some dickheads take the piss at work and call me the Hulking Mass, but its all good. I'm also far more intimidating too, apparently - people who used to give me the shits or try to give me a hard time (mostly because of my mouth ) now have more respect for me, and they don't try to start things. Oh yeah, you gotta love it when chicks tell you how big you are too, or when girls you knew from years ago come up and say, "Wow, you sure got big!"
The only downside is the misconception that you do it for the girls, and that you are a narcissistic jackass. In most cases, when I've had females asking why I'm bulking, they tell me that girls hate big guys. My reply, which is 100% true, is that I'm not doing this for girls - and if I was gonna do something specifically to get girls, I'd probably go over and talk to them. After saying this, you get a great effect if you just walk away and ignore them.

I'd have to say that I gained confidence and a good work ethic from serious bb. When I started lifting, I weighed 155 lbs. Three months prior to this, I was 195 lbs with about 20% bodyfat. I was chunky in high school but I cut down on eating and starting work so I lost a lot of weight. I realized I was too skinny so I hit the weight room. I haven't missed a workout since except for being extrememly sick once having 104.3 degree temp. It grew from a passion to an obsession and I wouldn't give lifting up for anything. In 3 years I put on about 50 lbs of lean mass naturally with protein, creatine, and hard work. It's given me more confidence with people along with giving me a good work ethic with everything I do in life. Sometimes we are tired and don't feel like lifting but we do it anyways. Same with anything else in life like work, homework (college work, blah) and other things in life. If you can motivate yourself to workout everyday, everything else seems easier. Just my perspective.

Awesome discussion, keep this going. I liked how there is a few repercussions to bodybuilding even though it helps everyone's self esteem.

I was just having this conversation the other day with a buddy of mine. We both "got serious" about BB about the same time. Over tha last year, we have both been the brunt of jokes about our diets (no fired foods, very little alcohol), and how often we both work out.

Whats funnier, is that him and I are making gains in lifts, I'm dropping the wieght I want, all the while our firends are getting more and more out of shape. Then the start asking us questions on what they are doing wrong

But I would have to say its helped my self esteem like crazy. I was always quite self conscious of my size, and I'm ALWAYs going to be a big dude... but now I have 10% less BF, and im completely comfortable going up and talking to women all the time. Its a welcome change.
