Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 32 | Aiight... I'm styll running thys topic of the week... Nothyng's changed... I want to thank everyone for their responses last week... Earlier thys week, I was talking with a few gym buddies about our humble beginnings and introductions to the sport... We laughed about all the magazines we bought as kids... All the supplements we wasted money on... How none of us took nutrition seriously... etc.. etc... So, I figured... Why not discuss our 3 biggest regrets involving thys wonderful sport of bodybuilding... If the experienced members can share the 3 thyngs they regret... it may prevent those new to the sport from going down the same road... I guess I'll start.. 1. Nutrition - I regret not taking the nutritional aspect of thys sport seriously... If I'd learned about protein/carbs/fat ... when I'd started, there's no telling how many of my goals I would've surpassed already. 2. Consistency - I started when I was 16.. Since then, lyfe has thrown me many curve balls... I've always done pullups or gotten a dumbbell and did curls & extensions... but I wysh I'd have stuck with it... If I had to do it over again, I would've tried harder to make working out a priority in life.. Fortunately, it's never too late to start. 3. Squats - I'm ashamed to admit thys.. but I started doing freeweight squats for the fyrst tyme ever in February or March of 2005... ... I just started doing deadlyfts as well... a few months later, maybe June... but I wysh the very fyrst gym I joined had a squat rack, with people that squatted and would've shown me the light... Once again tho, more proof that it's never too late to start... As they say, ya gotta learn to live with regrets... What are some of the thyngs you wish you did or could do differently?? Peace..~G

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 163 | Great topic GDD, 1. Legs. Like a lot of noobs i did little to no leg training when i got into bodybuilding because i hated it. It wasnt until a few years ago, about 2, that i started training my wheels as hard as the rest of my body. I still hate leg day but theres nothing i respect a fellow bodybuilder more for than having some killer quads. 2. Diet I regret not taking the time to learn the nutritional aspect of the sport sooner. Although i was supplementing and training correctly i didnt realize how important nutrition actually is, and to be on your way to quality muscle all three aspects must be in-sync. 3. Goal Setting When i started out and for the first couple years i wasnt setting goals for myself... sure i wanted to be huge but i was really just shooting in the dark. It wasnt until recently that i realized that in order to achieve long terms goals in this sport you must first set many short term goals. :nosthumbs

Recipes: 2 Rep Power: 96 | Thank you GDD, I think things will slow down when school or a family comes around. Right now all I have to do is go to work in a day and spend time with my girl friend. For right now, Bodybuilding is my main focus. Then college, it will slide a little from there. Bump for more posts. ![]() |

| Pink Members | i am no where near experienced as a lot of you, but i have a few regrets as well.... for ONE...i wish i had been more educated on life in general and had not been weak enough to have been steered in the wrong directions a few times....between eating CRAP and partying too much, i wasted a lot of time i could have spent in the gym getting in great shape.... DIET is also something i took for granted...i used to believe as long as you got in some form of exercise you could basically eat whatever the hell you wanted.....WRONG....it takes determination and control to get the diet aspect of weight training down...its only been the last few months that i have seriously changed the way i eat, and i already can see and feel the difference. eating clean is extremely important... another thing that set me back for a while was MONEY....a lot of people think you have to be a member of a gym to seriously pick up weight training....this isnt the case....for too long i didnt even TRY because i couldnt afford to go to the gym and i didnt think i could progress... thats just a crock IMO...all it took for me to get started was going to Walmart and buying a barbell set ( for $30)! as silly as it sounds, i used an old ottoman as my bench for the first few months until i was able to afford a weight bench ( and even then i didnt realize how cheap you could get one!)....not long after that i bought an adjustable dumbbell set ( $22) and i was set! i know having access to machines will eventually be something i will need, as well as something that will benefit my training, but it wont stop me from lifting if i cant get to a gym! anytime i find i do not have the equipment i need i realize i can make it work with other things...(i.e i use 5 gallon paint buckets for my rack pull rack.....my weight bench as my squat rack...a huge wooden block for my calf raises...and i am currently working on a cable pulley for my pulldowns)....dont let not having money stop you from doing whats right for your body! LASTLY...as a woman...i used to think lifting heavy would make me HUGE like a man...what i didnt realize was that women's bodies are just not capable of getting really HAYOGE without "help"...all heavy lifting will do is make us sexier and healthier! i think too many women are afraid to lift because they truly believe they will become BIG....its a MYTH! i have never been happier now that i lift heavy ( and that means heavy for ME...everyone is different in what weights they can lift)...never again will i think that if i lift only light weights i will look better than if i bust my ass lifting heavy! OH...and the word TONING is NOT a word! there is no such thing as toning...you either lift and build lean muscle mass, or you dont....its straight to the point and anyone who tells you all you need to do is a little toning to get in shape doesnt really understand what lifting is all about. |

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 4 | I am nowhere near as experienced as any of you, but my regret is getting into working out this late in my teen years. All of my friends used to talk about how they just benched 50 lbs. back in 6th grade and such, and I used to be very against the idea of working out. Now, at age 15, I can't get enough of it. I realize this is a minor regret, but I wanted to attempt to add to the conversation lol |
