| Mushroom Cloud Laying.... | This week's topic is about workout partners. Do you use one, do you feel you have to have one, have you always gotten along with your workout parnter, have you ever had another sex as a workout partner, etc? Give us as much information as possible.

| Mushroom Cloud Laying.... | My workout partner is my girlfriend. I am very comfortable with her as my workout partner because she is strong and knowledgable. At first when we started working out together, I was afraid to get under a bench with a lot of weight, but she soon taught me that she could pick up over 250 lbs off of my tired dead ass. We spot each other on every set, and she is very strong. I feel everyone needs a workout partner. I worked out by myself in my gym downstairs in my parents house for 4-5 years without a single spot. I got in trouble only once and it scared the hell out of me. I feel you need to be comfortable, and trusting with the person spotting you and workout with you. You need to be able to give advice without them/you getting mad. As long as this works, then it is okay.

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 31 | When I was 15, my gym was in the basement of my job's building... My partner's were 2 huge co-workers who managed to show me all the basics... except how to squat... When I was 17, my gyrlfriend's father.. Ivan & I both bought soloflexes... He worked the nyght shyft.. so when I went to her house after school, we'd workout together... and on days I had to work, I lyfted at home alone... It was great actually as he was a helluva lot stronger than me... He was a corrections officer... and we motivated the hell outta each other... cursing and screaming at each other... After every workout, we'd drink a protein shake.. then go to 7-11 for slurpees... Now.. at my gym... I'm all alone... I'm as intense as ever, but I'm the only person I trust in the gym... Nobody grunts whyle getting that last rep... nobody keeps a journal to know when they've set a PB... Sometymes I feel lyke I'm the only person that sweats at my gym... I'm definitely one of the few guys that do freeweight squats & deadlyfts... ... A guy gave me a spot once... The only thyng I did was take the bar off the rack... He grabbed the bar and immediately lifted it up and down for me... Never again... There are 5 gym employees that look lyke they work out.. and 3 of them are female... the rest look lyke they wouldn't know a squat from a incline dumbbell fly... I'm sure they do.. but their bodies tell a different story... Maybe it would be nyce to have a partner... we could construct a routine together and workout.. but for now.. I'm fyne... I'm comfortable drowning the world out with my iPod and hearing myself scream as I get that last rep... Peace..~G

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 13 | it makes a differ for each of my workouts, but i find that when i workout alone i move more quickly and more productively, but when i have a spotter on certain things i can push myself more to get the extra reps or more weight because im not afraid of dying. :P

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 46 | I wish I had a spotter for benching and squatting. Otherwise, I'd rather lift alone to keep myself focused. ![]() MOP

| Soldier In Progress | I'd rather lift alone because I'm not worrying if the spotter will come in now, or when I really struggle. Plus I go to failure on every working set (Rest-Pause) so it's generally hard to tell people I need a spot. This is why I stick to Hammer Strength machines, smythe, or try to use dumbells as much as I can.

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 5 | I had a partner when I first began lifting iron it wasn't bad, actually very good because we'd always be giving each other tips therefor learning better techniques etc. It's good because if you are ever running low on motivation to workout your partner can change that pretty quickly which is good. After about three months I went solo, I was far more dedicated and advanced than my partner. I was basicly an instructor at the end to my partner which I didn't mind but I saw no benefit for myself. Solo is good, I get in there do what has to be done and leave, no chitta-chatta between sets just hard work.

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 7 | Lifting with a partner definitely beats lifting on your own. I enjoy it a heck of a lot more and I'm more motivated to lift when my mate lifts with me, than when I have to lift alone. Unfortunately my lifting partner only comes to the gym 1/3 of the days I lift, so the the other 2 I lift by myself, which I don't enjoy...

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 207 | I've been lucky enough to have two friends of mine from high school at WUStL, and they're great training partners. They know when its ok to talk, when to shut up, when to yell at you to get another rep. I've enjoyed training with them and wouldn't trade them for anyone else. I trained alone during my sophomore year and half of my freshman year because my training partners were flakes. It was awful; I may as well have not even been at the gym. All I could think about was how stupid it was that these guys kept flaking on me...they were my good friends at school and it kinda pissed me off that they felt like they could blow off a commitment like that. Bastards. :banghead:

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 57 | I was fortunate enough to get together with 5 guys who like to powerlift. (I consider myself a bodybuilder but I do love the compound movement exercises the best.) We don't all connect each week anymore, but I usually have one of them available for spotting or working out with me on my Chest and Leg days. Usually it is just one guy that I workout with these days. (The others are injured, one has a new girlfriend and the other has excuses.) This guy out-weighs me by about 80-100 lbs, so I stuggle to keep up with his weights (if not not match his reps) where I can. I think it is a real plus if you have someone who is there to workout (motivated) and is consistant with training (reliable). I have that in my partner and he has that in me. It works great. I do Back day and my "whatever I want to work on" day alone. I like that too. *

Recipes: 0 Rep Power: 0 | My workout partner is my wife. I have never had a partner before her that was consistent enough or as intense. Usually after leg day they drop like flies. My wife is like the engerzise bunny. Plus now, she knows what motivates & what doesn't.

| Pro Stature | I enjoy the workouts I do with a partner more than when alone. I have 2 partners: the one who got me into lifting (almost never meet him anymore because we live so far away eachother and schedules) and my cousin. Time goes much faster and while im doing my set and get close to the end, if i have someone saying something to me (doesnt matter if its "you look cute when you push so hard" or "thats the taste 5 more") i just feel much better than when alone. Im also afraid of barbell benching movements when Im alone - ive got stuck under the barbell a million times and it hurts, it hurts... and when I get stuck under a barbell squatting, it hurts even more...
