Default [Week 12's Topic]-Should supplements be regulated???

Proverbs im getting tired of having to pick up your slack lol

Anyway, what's your view and opinions on this??

On one side i think they should that way we wouldnt have to worry about getting scammed as much or having to worry about what's really in that container or bottle. But on the other side, knowing how the government is they would prolly want to ban half of the supps. that are out once they could get their hands on them.

Discuss Away :bigthumbu

I don't think they should be regulated, but I do think they should have to pass some sort of outside testing in order to make the claims that are made by the manufacturers. Too many *s next to claims on bottles for me.

yes exactly.....i'd hate to see the FDA step in at all.....but if they did it'd be for this reason. another thing that should be controlled is labs testing of supplements before they hit the market. the HP CEE issue made it pretty evident that manufacturers could get away with producing pretty much anything they want.

they probably would ban quite a bit.....especially most of the "grey-area" products. i wouldn't suffer too much, because i only "supplements" i use protein and creatine....both naturally occuring. the FDA would have no regulation over those IMO.

I think they should be regulated in the sense that the government would make sure all ingredients are accurately labeled, and the product contains what it claims to. And the government should encourage studies on supplements/drugs as far as their efficacy and safety.

As far as the aspect of banning products or making them require a prescription, I'm taking a libertarian position on this. I don't really think anything should be banned. Adults should be able to do as they please with their bodies as long as it doesn't affect anyone else.

I know it's a little late but I have to put my 2 cents in. It's a tough question to answer since there is a plus and a negative on either side. If the government regulates them, yes, you will have less BS on the market and more product that will do what it says But. . . you will also have govenment telling you what you can and cannot buy. I'm independant in politics but lean heavily toward the libertarian party, and I feel that we are adults and have a better idea what is good for us as individuals than some government agency. Do you want to have to go to the doctor for a prescription of Vitamins c and E and hope they will also write one for Protein?

I don't think supplements should be regulated. As an adult I should be the one to decide what I do with my body.
