2007 IMPC - Banned Substance List for Novice and Women's Divisions

Hey Everyone,

I have had several questions about which products are legal for the Novice Bodybuilding Division.

The info below should clarify what is allowed and what is not allowed.
Note, this list also goes for the Women's Bodybuilding and Figure divisions also.

General Rule:

All substances sold over the counter legally are permitted. Substances that are not sold over the counter, or substances that are technically legal OTC but that would result in a positive urine test for a banned substance are prohibited ( ex. currently legal OTC steroidals )

Herbal anabolics like BAM, Jungle Warfare, Hyperdrol, etc are all legal.
The new Superdrol analogs, other OTC Steroids that are being sold due to loopholes in the law, or banned PH's and Pro-Steroids are not legal. Of course prescription steroids, test, GH, IGF-1, etc are not legal.

All OTC fat burning products are legal. For this competition, Ephedra / Ephedrine HCL is legal.

Clen, Cytomel, T3 etc are not legal.

Herbal diuretics like Taraxatone, XPEL are legal.
Prescription diuretics are not legal.

Here is a more detailed list with examples. Please note this is not a comprehensive list and is meant to provide specific examples of what is banned.. not every banned compound. If you have any question about whether a product is legal or not, please ask.

For example, prescription insulin, thyroid, and asthma medication use is allowed in the Novice and Women's Divisions, if these drugs are prescribed and used to treat an existing documented condition, and not used for the purposes of physique enhancement. Administration of testosterone, growth hormone, or other anabolic steroids, even with prescription, is not allowed in the Women's Bodybuilding, Figure. or Novice Men's Bodybuilding Division.

ephedra group alkaloids are now banned per the FDA (sida Cordifolia Extract) does this now make any ephedra/ephedrine product banned from the competition?

The FDA ban on ephedra alkaloids in the United States was actually overturned in 2005. Although many companies have chosed not to add ephedra back to their supplements, it is legal for sale ( Lipodrene Yellow for example )

Ephedrine HCL has never been banned and is still available for sale.
Because both compounds are legal for OTC sale, they are legal for this competition.

Thanks for posting that link. I know the Denver ruling is currently being challenged in court also, but I haven't seen the outcome of it yet. So, you're correct, the ban on Ephedra in Dietary supplements is technically in effect right now.

So, I should clarify and say that products specifically banned by the FDA ruling ( i.e. - products marketed as dietary supplements containing ephedra ) would be banned for this competition.

Although, none of the FDA rulings have really done anything to limit the legal availability of ephedrine. The ban is really little more than a ban on marketing.

The real key to that FDA ruling is that it is talking about Ephedra alkaloids in products sold as "Dietary Supplements".

Ephedrine HCL is still available and perfectly legal OTC ( Vasopro, for example ) , so it is not illegal for this competition.

no problem, i really wasnt trying to be a dick or jip anyone on things they panned on using for the competition. just felt it was a topic to be brought to your attention for consideration.

and yes, it is mostly a ban on marketing of it.

I know bro, no worries.

From a competitors standpoint, I always thought the ban on ephedra was funny when Ephedrine HCL was still on the market and perfectly legal. Ephedrine HCL is more effective anyway.

Although, removing it from dietary supplements will take it out of the hands of most of people that probably shouldn't be using it anyway.

I actually don't even use Ephedrine HCL anymore, but I have always thought it was perfectly safe and effective when used properly.

Well I guess I am out because I use T3 which is prescribed by my doctor for many years now. I also use T4.

<3 ephedrine. I love the feeling I get from it far beyond it's fat loss benefits. It's a much 'cleaner' stimulation than caffiene, and more powerful than the other OTCs like amp etc

In your case FnF, it would be allowed.

From the rules:

Are Halodrol LiquiGels considered banned for this competition?

I'm honestly not up on all the latest PH / Steroidal Products out there.

Do Halodrol Liquigels contain the same DMT analog that I believe the original Halodrol did?

If so then it would be banned, if it's something herbal and they are just using the same name, then it may be legal. Someone else may need to provide some input here.

Remember, it's the honor system ( we have no way to test you ), so it's the competitor's responsibility to find out what you are taking. If it's a anabolic steroid precursor or analog, then it's banned for the Novice and Women's classes.
